I used to have an old dog that slept at the foot of the bed. I had to be careful to step over him when moving about the bedroom. I find myself still stepping over him years after he was dead and buried. Likewise, when I come home from work, I set my briefcase on the floor next to a wall. Only I set it abut four inches from the wall because we had a neuro cat that would pace around the house, hugging the wall. If I put the briefcase directly against the wall, it would confuse and discombobulate the cat as he made his rounds. The cat has been dead for over two years and I still set my briefcase four inches from the wall.
Do you have any vestigial habits that no longer serve any purpose because the conditions under which you developed them no longer exist?
