They're a violation of our rights. What we do at home is our damn business. Don't search me when I'm clearly innocent, don't question me until I'm a suspect, and allow me to feel secure in my person.

Spoken like a true addict. The only people i EVER hear complain about having to take a drug test to get a job (even though this situation is for probation) is because they use.

:)

Ditto. Heck, for my job, drugs should be provided as part of the standard office supplies.

If he/she is really concerned, you can have a "hair" test done that goes back as long as the hair is. About 1/4" per month.
Hair test is not indicated as a 'verification' or control test. Hair tests are in fact more prone to error than GC/MS urinalysis.

While errors are possible and DO HAPPEN, they are very rare now-a-days. The simple truth is, it is FAR more likely that your friend has been partaking than it is likely that he is the victim of a bona fide false positive, on the level of a few orders of magnitude.

Again, that isn't to say its not possible, it is possible, just very very unlikely, from a probability standpoint.

But, the law of averages can strike anyone at any time, pretty much. Just because ten million other people who claim 'false positive' are lying, doesn't MEAN your friend is.

Possible contamination from the lab is not a very reallistic reason. They are very careful and very accurate, after all, they have very extensive training, and they enjoy what they do, so they will take pride in it.

Yeah, right, in an ideal world.

Might be true for most private labs maybe, probably not so much for government labs. And every security person working at airports is very careful and accurate.

How about that crematorium that buried all those bodies instead of cremating them?

There are always those that will take short cuts in order to make a few more $$.

There are humans running the tests. Mistakes can be made. When my daughter was born, they brought the wrong baby (a boy) to my wife to breast feed. and this was at one of the better hospitals.

If the results are in doubt, it's best get a diferent independent lab to double check. Just like people are encouraged to get second opinions on doctor assessments, if they don't feel that what they are being told is correct.

Aren't they supposed to ask what prescription drugs you're taking to prevent things like this?

I assumed they were supposed to as well. The procedures at the particular place that the state makes him go to only requires you to urinate then intial it. It is supposed to be a 2 minutes process. They obviously need to add in a short questionnaire.

OK, so the poppy seed thing IS true. I'd only ever seen it as a gag on TV shows, so I kind of assumed it might be far fetched and/or that current tests could tell the difference

he shouldnt have to take drug tests ~ it has nothing to do with his crime.
its BS.
Maybe, assuming it was only illegal fireworks the friend was dealing.

But why trust a criminal's word after failing two drug tests for THC? All of the false positives brought up here and in the thread of a guy applying for enlistment (awhile back) were opiates, amphetamines and cocaine not THC. Chances are he is smoking sometimes and thought he could beat the test or bluff.

Just watch the losers on police reality shows trying stupid lies when they're caught red-handed.

I'm that guy that applied for enlistment and tested positive for cocaine......just to let you know......the Army did mess up because they wiped my slate clean after they did an investigation at the military entrance processing station where I took the test. Got my job back and everything.

After that fiasco, I'll be uneasy everytime I have to take a drug test even though I have nothing to hide. Pretty upsetting that they rely on these tests so heavily when their's always the chance that their is a mistake because drug tests are not 100% accurate.
