A bit unusual looking, but cool. :D

The 247-foot-long wing measures only 8 feet front to back and is controlled from the ground by two pilots using desktop computers.

Yeah, I just saw a show about this plane on the Discovery Science channel. The guy said the plane's density was half that of a dragon flies wing.
Pretty remarkable things coming from NASA. Too bad the general public doesn't see the need for NASA anymore.

skoorb - hah if they are ...oh god it crashed what do we do now.....?

i want one of those for my bday

to bad that engine that was suppose to do mock7 (by NASA) got all blowed up everywhere in the rocket that was launching it.....

i mean they spend massive ammounts of time and money buidling a new prototype engine and the delievery system blows it up befre it can be tested now that SUCKS

yep, unfortunately the same general public is also made of a buncha <insert insult here>.

Scuba, what does that have to do with anything?

The Antonov AN225 Myria ----Six huge jet engines.

Are you sure it is bigger than the Spruce Goose? I believe that it is the biggest aircraft ever built. But if you meant still flying, are you sure it is bigger than a C-5?

Yup the AN255 has a gross takeoff weight of over 1 million lbs. Planes like the 747 can do around 800K. The plane called is "Myria" because it truly is a "dream" to see something like this fly.

Very cool. I hope some day to work for NASA. Maybe I could be a test pilot. What's that stuff? ;)

I saw a Discovery Channel show on this plane and others as well. It was designed by the same guy that built the Gossomer Condor. It was the first human powered plane to cross the English Channel.

Zorba,

I belive the Goose is still the largest ever built and flown. but the Russian plane is slightly larger than the C-5 which is smaller than the C-17.

Whats that Russian plane that just kinda skims the water called? I caught it on the Dicovery Channel around a year ago and they said it could lift more than any other plane in the world.

the spruce goose is the largest wooden plane ever built. the antonov is the largest. the reason that recon plane came back on one is because it was the only plane that cold hold that much.
