Very strange RAID problem

I'm having a very strange problem with my raid-0 array. Here are the specs:

Controller: Adaptec 1210sa (2 port sata raid)
Drive 1 and 2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA 200GB
Array type: raid-0

The problem is very strange, I can't explain it so I'll just give examples.

Example 1: If I download a quicktime movie to the d: drive (the raid array) and try to play it from there, it plays for about 2 seconds and freezes my entire system. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't even work at that point.

However, if I move the movie from the d: drive to the c: (a different drive not part of the raid) drive (don't even have to re-download it), it will play just fine.

Example 2: If I try to install a game onto the d: drive from the d: drive (the installation source is on the d: drive or being emulated from the d: drive with alcohol/daemon-tools), either the installation will fail with a <can't find xxx file/can't read from xxx> or the installation will succeed, but random sounds and textures in game will be missing/corrupt. I've also had one game succeed in installing but crashed at random times during play (I'm guessing from corrupt files).

However, if I move the installation source from d: to c:, and install it from c: onto d:, it will install just fine, and play just fine.

Also, if I install from d: to c:, it plays just fine.

What makes this even more strange is that I have my music stored on the d: drive (raid) and it all plays just fine. My documents are there as well with no curruption.

Does anybody have any idea where I can start to search for a solution, or test to see what is causing this strange problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

Yes, it certainly is a strange "problem. However, as I don't do RAID and don't know the answer, consider this a free bump for your question.

Good Luck with it.

What do your system and application events logs show when you have a failure like this?
Are you running the latest drivers for your RAID controller?
