Very strange Mobo/HDD issues...

So I've been out of the country for a while, and my computer has been working fine for my parents, who have used it intermittantly over the past semester. Prior to my arrival home it was running totally fine for 2 weeks straight.

Then I got home...

Suddenly the computer is, when started, sometimes lagging for odd amounts of time in the POST message, while it detects the usb devices and HDDs, etc. Where it used to take maybe...10-15 seconds maybe, now it would take 30. Then sometimes it decides not to boot, and it gives me this message that says "No boot device selected, insert proper boot device." It would still boot from a bootable CD when I tried that.

Starting yesterday I tried to turn it on and it no longer ever booted into windows - now it
1) hung in the POST message, mainly on the "Checking NVRAM..." step, where it counted my mem. it would get to 1024 (what I have) and just sit there for 30 seconds, then flash the rest of the POST quickly and move onto a screen that used to say "Fastrack controller" which was my RAID controller, that I didn't use.
2)Now it said something else that flashed quickly and then popped up a message that says "No device found...Bios is not installed!"

Bios is not installed....err, wtf? I restarted and went into the BIOS - sure enough, its there. Did it mean something else?

Additionally now, after the bios is not installed bit it flashes to a screen that says, in a very strange spot about 3/4 down the black screen "No Hard Drive Detected, CPU FAN ERROR" What else can there be?!?

But the fun doesn't stop there. I unplugged everything from the MObo minus the cpu, then put the vid. card, and mem. back in. I tried booting and got the same errors, even after resetting all the bios options to 0.

even MORE fun - when The computer starts the HDD makes a very terrifying "ka-beloved patriot" noise during the NVRAM POST test, and then again every 40 seconds or so that I leave it sitting at the "No boot device, insert proper boot device" screen. This worries me. I tried 3 different IDE cables, all the same result. Sometimes in the BIOS I look and there is no HDD recognized, sometimes there is and it still doesn't boot.

And to complicate things even more, after the 20th time trying to start it today, it just booted into windows for me. There was no ka-beloved patriot sound this time.

So....lol...any thoughts? This all happened within 3 days, building every day. I'm thinking that the HDD is definitely going, and that perhaps the MBB is messed up? I tried resetting the CMOS = nothing. I tried flashing the bios = nothing.

Any and all constructive thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds more like the hard drive is failing personally. the error where "No device found...Bios is not installed!" stats that the fasttrak controller did not see any drives so it did not load its bios which is normal.

what you should do is download the diagnostics from your drive manufacture and run them to see if the drive fails. usually they make a bootable cd or floppy.

Alternatly you could download knoppix live(bootable linux cd) unhook your hard drive and boot from the cd to allow the system to do a full boot and see if any of the other problems show themselves
