Very specific question (yep, another XB1 vs PS4 thread)

Hoping you guys might be able to settle my own internal Sheldon Cooper dilemma. I play very few games: in fact, my spectre is limited to sports (NBA, FIFA, maaaaybe NHL - not Madden) and racing (I currently have a PS3, so I'm partial to GT6) games. I don't foresee that changing, but I do want to venture into next-gen console ownership. I don't do multiplayer gaming, either. So, with that in mind...which one? Leaning towards the XB since it's a bit cheaper, plus I already have a PS3, like I said...

I would go with the Xbox, because everything sports-related is multiplatform. However, the Xbox offer two high-quality racers in Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2, while there is not announced Gran Turismo for the PS4, and Driveclub turned out to be a dud. Since those are your preferred genres, I'd take the Xbox because it's the only one with a game advantage in that area.

If you're wanting to venture out into more stuff, either console will offer plenty to try out, because both carry a plethora of multi-platform games.

if you want racers, x1 is the way to go. there are no racing games worth a damn on the ps4 and none in the foreseable future (that won't be on the x1 as well). all they have is driveclub and nfs, and NFS is terrible. i own it and wish i didn't.

forza horizon 2 is probably the best racing game i've played since burnout paradise. it's just really really fun with a lot to do.

all of those sports games are multiplatform as well so it doesn't matter what console you get in that regard, unless you are really into baseball, but i didn'ts ee you mention that. mlb the show is the best baseball game out there.

and who knows when ps4 will get a gran turismo game. probably in 4 years if you are lucky.

If sports and racing games are your main interests, my suggestion is to base your decision on which racing series you want more; Forza or GT. The sports games are going to be virtually identical. There isn't much point in settling for something just because it's cheaper if you don't have an interest in the games. There's also the possibility of a price drop on PS4 in the future, or a GT7 bundle. I'm a PS fan, never cared for Xbox exclusives, but I think both systems have a lot to offer. The easy answer is to just get PS4 since you're already invested in the Sony ecosystem.

It's hard to really give you definitive advice one way or the other because there's so many variables even with the limited range of games you intend to play.

I am a lot like you, no multi player, play very few games but I like my racing games, and favored GT over Forza(but think both are great). Last gen I had a Fanatec wheel and was able to have both xb360 and ps3 work on the wheel.

I already own a PS4. This gen PS has no racing games yet, the earliest you might get a good racer on the ps4 is in March with Project Cars. Also there is not a wheel that works on both systems yet. So I bit the bullet and picked up a xbone and thrustmaster wheel. I figure the xbone will be for my racing games and ps4 for most other games. Now maybe when GT7 comes out I might get a new wheel to play on both systems (if one is available).

In your situation I would go with the xbone, Forza racing is pretty good and for sports its going to be the same on both systems. Xbone has racing now, and its going to be a long time till GT7 comes out, maybe 2017?

Not really... There is no GT for PS4, nor has one been announced. So, that isn't a factor.

If you want to play racing games, the Xbox One is a no brainer.

I used to be a huge Gran Turismo fan, but last generation they lost their lead. Forza has taken the lead as the premiere racing simulation on consoles. Polyphony Digital has been extremely slow to bring the series up to modern standards and are still stuck in the PS2 era.

Unless you're a bigger fan of GT and that actually matters. So no, not a "no brainer". Nice try though.

We don't know the OP's opinions on Forza considering they own a PS3. Telling them to go buy XB1 just because it has games is as much bad advice as telling them to go buy PS4 because it might have GT. GT7 *IS* coming, Kaz and PD have already said it, it's just a matter of when.

It's far more complicated than just more games = better buy.

To the OP: You need to decide what matters more to you; having next get right now and some games to play or waiting for the series you know and are interested in to be on next gen. No one here can answer that question, despite how hard they try to push their opinion.

Except that there is no GT on PS4. Or any good racing game, for that matter. Yep, no brainer.

OP wants to play racing games. The PS4 has no good racing games.

It's not about "just more games"... It's about the games the OP wants to play.

Had he said that Baseball games were his favorite genre, our answers would be very different.

Both consoles are great. Both are very capable of providing countless hours of entertainment. I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times. Choose the one that has the games you want to play.

It's all about the games.™

I have played Forza...I want to say 4...on the XBox 360 (yep, I had both consoles until getting rid of the XB mainly because of GT5/6). Wasn't impressed mainly because the graphics of the 360, to me, felt a lot more cartoonish than Gran Turismo. That's why my biggest concern with the XB1 were the graphics, but that seems like a moot point with this generation of consoles. I do like the Forza franchise in principle - and I'm particularly ticked off at Sony for not making good on two main promises of GT6 - Ayrton Senna content (what exists now kinda feels like a slap in the face of the Brazilian Magician's fans) and the GPS create-your-own track feature. So, I'm not holding my breath for GT7, although Driveclub seemed like a good title until I read the reviews.

What I'm really looking forward to right now is a couple of games: FIFA 15 and NBA 2K15. I'm contemplating just getting the PC versions (especially given that FIFA on PC has finally caught up to the consoles) and holding off on getting a new console, but I also kinda want to see if NHL 15 can grab my attention for a few weeks, as well. Plus, there's the whole thing of Black Friday and some disposable income burning a hole in my pocket😀.

Also, if it helps shape opinion at all, the TV I'm playing on is a 3D Panny plasma (ST55) (not sure that it makes much difference, but just throwing it out there).

Xbox has better racing games right now. I just picked one up last weekend and besides the install times taking forever I'm enjoying it. I got it mostly for exclusives as I already have a pc and a ps4.

Ps4 is better for exclusives like last of us, uncharted, bloodborned, other story driven games, etc. Although on paper the ps4 is better spec wise, I don't notice the difference owning both consoles. Each has their own games that due it justice in the looks department.

I am waiting for a black Friday deal on forza 2 as I've been watching videos and it reminds me of burnout which I loved.

I almost picked it up last night at best buy with GCU membership but I realized the MS store is having a sale on the 27th. Hopefully I can grab it then.

If I remember correctly, the leak of the Microsoft Store sales did not include Horizon 2 and it has not popped up in any other major retailer's Black Friday ad. It can't hurt to wait if there's something for you to play already, but I wouldn't plan on a Horizon 2. There's a similar sadness with Halo and Sunset Overdrive, which are also lacking in leaked deals.

Says it's there but just does not give a price.

Personally I like my PS4, however with your listed sports game, XB1 with EA Access. And the Forza games are pretty good. Plus the XB1 is going dirt cheap right now and probably better during Black Friday.

And I advise you to skip NHL 15, I dumped mine, what an embarassment. Also dumped FIFA 15 as it is terrible for me, I still have FIFA 14 (which is included on EA Access BTW) and just got PES 15.

yep, and sunset overdrive is there too.

i wouldn't expect a crazy sale on MCC 2 weeks after launch either.

I expect this sale to go as fast as the Amazon flash sales. I'll be on at midnight on the 26th to try and grab horizon 2. I already have mcc, SO, and ryse so this will pretty much complete my exclusives list up until later.

Oh, I didn't realize they were on the list. I might re-purchase Sunset Overdrive, if it's cheap enough (then get the Season Pass someday), as it would hopefully be a game my sister would enjoy (she just bought her husband a One, and I'd like to find her something to do on there). I'll probably skip Horizon 2, as I already plan to buy 5-8 games from Best Buy during Black Friday (including the Forza 5 DLC-inclusive edition for $20), so unless that hits $20-$25, I won't bother. Ryse is another I might snag, as its DLC-inclusive version is supposed to be $24 with GCU.

The GCU deal is still on at best buy so if I really wanted to I could go purchase horizon 2 with GCU and then I won't need to go anywhere for black Friday. The next game I plan to get is far cry 4 but I may buy it for ps4 if my buddy also gets it. But without knowing the price of the MS sale I'm kind of hesitant on buying it today.
