Very slow Open Dialog Box in 2K

Recently the Open Dialog in all my applications outside of Office 97, which uses its own, has been taking a long time to switch between directories and drives. If there are many files in the directory it may take a minute to show the contents.

I didn't have this problem when I first set up 2000 about 2 months ago. I haven't added any programs recently and scanned for a virus. Anybody have any idea what may be happening?

 
I don't have an answer, but I can tell you that it is a common problem in Win2K.

All 4 of us programmers in my office are running Win2K on IBM thinkpads, and we all have that problem. Sometimes it seems worse than others. Hopefully someone else knows something about it

Anyone have an answer?
