Very Slow File Share Access on Vista

I replaced a Windows Server 2003 machine with a new server running Server 2003 SP2, but now the Vista computers in the Active Directory domain have incredibly slow file share access to the new server. The Windows XP clients on the network have very fast file transfer speeds to the new server, so it's doesn't look like a server problem. Any ideas on a fix?

Here's an update on my situation. I Google searched and searched the Microsoft Vista newsgroups for info about this issue. I found some replies giving people who had the same problem some things they could try to fix it. I tried two of them, and the changes to Vista fixed the slow network transfers. I had to make both of these changes. One change with out the other didn't increase the speeds.

1. Disable TCP Auto-Tuning: Type ?netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled? at the Command Prompt as Administrator. Changing ?disabled? to ?normal? will re-enable this setting.

2. Turn off Remote Differential Compression: Go to Control Panel-->Programs and features-->Windows Features and uncheck "Remote Differential Compression".

The file shares issue is a known problem for Vista. You can contact Microsoft and get a hotfix if you are experiencing the issues listed in their knowledge base.

However, in my case, the hotfix still didn't work. This past couple of weeks though my file transfers have been a little bit better, nothing great though.
