Very novice question regarding Linksys cable modem

I recently upgraded from the starter modem given to me by my cable company to a Linksys (BEFCMU10). I hooked it up using the USB but I had all sorts of fatal exception problems w/ Win 98.

Anyway I bought a Netgear ethernet card so I could connect the modem that way.Installed it and upgraded all the firmware.

Now my question is how do I go about connecting to the net now? When I was using the USB port my modem was connected without me doing anything but I get nothing using the ethernet card.

Like I said I'm truly a novice when it comes to this stuff and any help is appreciated Thanks

If you're using a different modem now, the modems MAC address has changed. Every network device (NICS, modems, routers, etc) has a unique address burned into it. This is how your ISP finds your modem on it's network.
You will have to notify your ISP and inform them that you are using a new modem. They will be the ones that will have to get you back up and running.
