Mr. Cohen was born with the gift of a golden voice, but I still prefer Jeff Buckley's version.

For "Everybody Knows" it's a tie (for me) between him and Johnette Napolitano / Concrete Blonde.

For most everything else, I agree that he sings his own songs the best.

I still like John Cale's the best. He just managed to give it this haunting gravity that I haven't felt from other renditions and he sang it with just the right balance of passion and force imo.

The sound coming from between those gap teeth was amazing. Beautiful rendition. I think Buckley was the first to make it so hauntingly beautiful, but this version is outstanding on its own. Being live & such.

they're covering buckley's version', cohen's sounds far different... less commercial.
