<< OK, just ordered the first part. I'm going to use 1GHZ duron on a M7VKQ mother board. I have 3 coming. I got 12 HD's from anandtech forum for a avg. of 12.00 a drive. With this setup each system will cost 149.00 so by the end of the year I should have 10 up and running. I cruch about 23,000 KKeys/sec now. So I might be able to get in the top 500 with the complete setup. Also if any one know how fast the 1GHZ duron cruches numbers please post.
Also had to buy a new switch 16ports to start with.

haha, last post on last page :p

Everyone comes from all over to buy stuff in our fs/ft. I bought a bunch of 1.2 gig drives for about $10-15 shipped.

Can't wait to see the CrazeeCrackRack going :D Someday there will be a VandalizerCrackRack too, but by that time I'll probably be getting 20-30 gig drives for the same price

OTHO, if this diskless node stuff works out okay, I might give that a go instead ;)

The parts for my crack rack are coming along too.. a friend of mine is picking up the "rack" for me tomorrow. It's one of those 7' tall 19" equipment racks like the one I already have in my basement, and almost as cheap too.. just $50.00, with doors and wheels and all. :D

EDIT: I like shopping at liquidators. ;)

You may be thinking of the wrong type of rack... ;)

I priced a bunch of systems on newegg and came to about $1500 for 5 decent systems. Its tempting, but I cant do it right now :/

OK thats it.

Time to get my own arse into gear and start the lights of London flickering.

I'll be back with questions etc for everyone. I hate the thought of having to have individual OSs on each node - and I like the sound of a cluster.. I'll ask questions later and do some research :)

Actually in the case of my crackrack, I'll be using Win98SE on each of the single-cpu nodes and NT4 on the dual-cpu nodes for the simple reason that I already own enough legit licenses to do so, and I understand how to setup and configure the MS operating systems; were I to use some flavor of Linux/Unix, I'd be starting from scratch not knowing anything.

Besides, in addition to the licenses, I've already got plenty of hard-drives sitting around to put one on each node too.

Most of the recent distros of Linux are pretty easy to set up. THe last three I have done detected and pretty much installed all of my network and video cards. I didn;t have to do anything. So, when you run out of legit licenses on M$ stuff, don;t be worried up the linux installs........... :)

And if you don't feel like downloading, I already have 5 or 6 distros that I can burn a copy of and mail it to you.
