Very interesting article about the culture and inner workings of scientology.

Is there anything I didn't already know from watching Southpark?
Likely, but not of any real consequence. Outside of the means of making money, Scientology has some interesting ideas, and I'm sure many its 'rich and clueless' truly do get their worth from it.

L. Ron Hubbard was a very interesting, and enigmatic person. Among other things, he clearly had a great sense of humor, and quite a bit of experience in the occult. I have no doubt that much of what makes up Scientology was born of humorous observations of religions and early mental health science, and is very much a middle finger to traditional psychology and psychiatry, in which acceptance of the typical defines healthy.

So, I had to read it in a few chunks, but I read the whole article. It is interesting though. Basically, it sounds like Scientology is being run by one very unstable person who essentially imprisons some young people and beats up others. It almost sounds like Hubbard started it as a joke, but this guy has taken it wayyyyyyy beyond that into a true cult.
