Notice the bead then the code box. See the symbols for each? The number of beads is the number of times you turn that crank. Make sure you go in the order of the color.

You go in the order of the decoding thingy, not the beads.

you open up your inventory window and drag the poison onto the spear shafts. That makes a poison spear that you can lob at the monkey...
