(I know there was a thread a while back about the Zune Pass but this is about the Zune itself)

I just wanted to say the Zune is great. I have both used an iPod and Zune many times, and the Zune easily is better (in my opinion) than the iPod. It's cheaper, easier to fix if something goes wrong, and the software is extremely easy and better to use. It (software) looks very good, easy to navigate, etc. I am very impressed with everything about the Zune. My younger brother and Dad even got one as well, and we all are sharing the Zune Pass (3 Zunes on one subscription FTW).

If you are in the market to looking for a new iPod, consider the Zune instead. Anyone else here go from iPod -> Zune?

EDIT: Added poll for fun, sorry just between the 'Big Two' :D

I <3 my Zune 30. I wish I bought the smaller flash based model though, the 30's kinda bulky. But for the money and what it does, it's definitely a steal.

I never had an ipod, but love my zune. I was the one who made the zune pass thread. Between my pc and my zune I listen to about 4-5 hours of music a day. 6400 plays in just over 2 months.

Yup you're right Bill, it was you.

I just can't believe people use the iPod once I got my Zune. MS should do some marketing thing where they give people a Zune + pass to iPod users. It's so much better , especially the software, looks fantastic and easy to use.

You can't listen to Pandora on your Zune. Free music FTMFW.

I'll say that the Zune has always been a great player, but not till recently has the software been good enough for me to call it better than the ipod.

can i just drag and drop MP3s? Or do I have to use software/go through WMP? The biggest thing for me is just getting on the songs. True, I may be giving up things like setting album art to individual songs...but I don't stare at my mp3 player while I listen to music...
...then again I don't have an mp3 player anyways :p My laptop streams music from my desktop whenever i'm doing odd jobs around the house.

Yup you can drag and drop. It's in a Zune folder under "My Music"

Not in the sense he's talking about though.

You can not use the Zune as a storage device, so you can't go into My Computer and drag files to your 'Zune'. You can do what Quintox suggests though and drag them into one of your watched folders and the software will automatically sync it up when you plug it in next.

What's bad in your opinion about the Zune software?

Listening to what I want, when I want is even better. Plus $10 of my $15 subscription goes toward buying music anyways.

I have had numerous ipods and Zunes, aside from the Touch I would take a Zune any day. I like the software better and the user interface on the Zune.

It's probably a matter of preference and library size/location, but I take the opposite opinion. iTunes is slow to load and prone to unexplained pauses and hitches in scrolling through my library, switching views, etc. Zune is smooth as butter. Also, iTunes doesn't watch folders like Zune/WMP/every other library software on the planet does. That sucks, big time. I also prefer Zune's mixview to iTunes' genius, but I really really like on the fly genius playlists on the iPhone.

I've been looking at a few of their players. I'm probably going to replace my Zen X-Fi with the D2+. I wish the S9 came with a memory expansion slot, otherwise I'd probably get that one instead.

I prefer using the Zune to the iPod.

I think iTunes is junk, personally. Ugly...too complicated to use. Bloated. Etc. Once you get Zune software setup, it's really easy to use and sync with your Zune. My only problem with it is that it takes a few seconds to load up.

Does it handle audiobooks as well as the ipod? I've been considering a zune for my next media player, but if it doesn't support some way to stop and start a file where you left off in addition to separating files that you tag as audiobooks from the rest of the library that would be a deal breaker.

I went from an ipod to a zune. Haven't turned back. Was never really fond of the touchwheel, they improved the zune software and firmware a ton since the original release. Podcast support really starting to mature and zune pass have all convinced me i'm not missing anything from my ipod.

Thinking about a ipod touch, but the price is still way too high for the screen space.
