Tomer -

You the Envision man - I have bought about 10 Envision 17" and 19" monitors. And for the price, you cant beat them. Especially from Staples with rebates and coupons. IMHO.

Just a word of caution on the Envision 17" "flat-screen". I bought 2 and a friend bought 2 on "Black Friday". They were Model 775e, which is the same as what they are offering this time, I believe. The glass does appear to be pretty flat but does not seem to have any "anti-reflective" qualities.

However, a couple things to note. The monitor case is Silver and Black. That just happens to match my case, but probably won't for many people, if that is a concern.

More importantly, IMHO, the quality of the picture is sub-standard on that model (EN-775e). All 4 of our monitors have purity issues and the picture seems slightly out of focus and "washed out" no matter what combination of Contrast & Brightness levels we have tried.

Over the past few months I have purchased 18 of the Envision 17" En-710e's and 3 of the 19" EN-910e's (Both have beige cases) and the pictures have been outstanding on all of the 20 units. They are not "flat screens".

I have also purchased 2 of the Envision 15" LCD monitors. One blew up after a couple months and the other keeps plugging along.

So, in my opinion, Envision makes a solid monitor for the price. Just not sure about the quality of the EN-775e.

Good luck.

I have to agree I have bought 2 En710's, an En775e, and a En780. The first En710 was about 2 years ago and it was pretty crappy, then I got a 780 about a year ago and it was okay, just recently bought the En775(free after the staples overlapping rebate screw up) and a En710 again and the 710 really blew me away. The 775 and 780 were nearly identical in quality only difference is 775 can only do 1024x768 I believe, nothing to write home about but nothing great.

I just picked up the EN-985e at my local Staples. Pulled it out of the box and it looks fabulous. All black case except for the front bezel which is silver. It's a perfect match for the Logitech Cordless Elite Duo. It also has small overall dimensions for a 19" which is nice for desk space, especially compared to my existing monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 950p which is beautiful, but in comparison just looks enormous now. While I was plugging in the new monitor I took notice that the cable is not narrow or cheapy looking like with some cheap monitors I've seen before. Unfortunately, there must be something wrong with it anyway, because I have annoyingly noticeable ghosting on the screen. It happens with all resolutions and refresh rates I tried, and was still there after I tried unfolding the cable better and moving other cords away. Any other ideas on causes of ghosting. (No, I'm not using a KVM switch or an extension.) Unfortunately, unlike with my samsung 950p, the cable is molded directly into the monitor so I can't just replace it. So it's a trip back to the store for an exchange. Hopefully it is just this particular monitor and the replacement will not have this problem. I have had one other envision flat monitor before, the EN-780 which was incredible, going up to 1600x1200, though how many use that on a 17" anyway. Not many 17" monitors can even do that. The newer 17" flat only goes to 1280x1024. Back to 985e though. Anyway, except for the ghosting, everything else appears great on the screen. No distortions or fuzziness or other problems, including all edges and corners. I'll post back if the replacement has the same ghosting problem or not.

Never, Ever, drop refresh rate under 85Hz. Do you think that $30 you save is worth hurting your eyes? 85 is bare minimum and you should shoot for at least 100Hz. Sacrifice the resolution only means a smaller desktop but so what you ain't trashing your eyes. Higher resolution gets you real bad eye strain; if you are on anandtech, you have spent enough time on monitors to hurt your eyes.

I just picked up the 775e at staples, and I am dissapointed with the picture quality. It is being run off a GeForce 3.

First off, I cannot correct all of the distortions (satisfactorly), there is one in particualr abour 2/3 the way down on the right hand side I cannot correct.

Second, yes, I do agree that the colors and whatnot appear to be washed out. I think this can be attributed to the slighty softer focus towards the edges, and possibly the design of the tube (what tube do they use anyway?).

Third, the colors are (IMO) significantly off and not even at about 2" (border) on both the right and left edges (top and bottom are ok). On the right upper 2/3, it casts a "greenish" light, and on the left edge (whole), the colors are significantly "bluer" and "whiter" than the rest of the image. I think this can be realted to an un-even brightness on the whole image.

Also, at a resolution of 1280x960, at any [reasonable, like 70, 72, 75] refresh rate, it flickers, quite noticably. Although, at 1024x768, it doesn't flicker [noticeably] at either 72, 75, or 85.

I will go and exchange it, and, if the second is not better, than I will return for a full refund. I guess I cannot expect that much for a monitor that is $70 after mir. I am guessing I will end up buying a smasung or whatnot, or something better than this 775e.

Does anyone have any reccomendations on a good 17" monitor, preferably flat, But I'd rather have a good image than a so-so flat.

Thanks everyone.

Monitor is not the best, but customer service is excellent.

The first one I had, edge of screen was slightly dirtort; e-mail them, and get the reply within 20 mins; the replacement was not great, the tube leaned a little; e-mail them, and get the reply within 20 mins; third one is fine.

They sent UPS pick it up, replacement came about 5 days; they paid for it.

I did ask if the third one was still bad..., they will keep replacing it until it is right.

Save a few bucks on quality control, and spend it on shipping -- it should be the other way.

Turn off your Samsung monitor if it's right next to it... or turn off your TV or other electronic appliances if they are near it.

I got this 17" monitor FAR a few months ago at staples.

It's not a true flat crt monitor. It's a curved screen with a flat glass fused to the front. The glass does have anti-glare properties, but it doesn't always filter out all reflections. The color is good, and the text is sharp.

The one great thing about this monitor is that it's better than any monitor you'll get with a compaq or hp pc.
plus, this Envision monitor comes with a 3 year warranty. You can't beat that.

Envision is the Hyundai of computer monitors. They aren't the most luxurious items, but the fat 10 year warranty puts a little more confidence in the average joe.

scored a 19" monitor deal last night, everything was smooth. but i would rather do the order online instead of over the phone, looks like staples is trying to get rid off all the $50 off $200 coupons now....
today is the last day for the rebate, good luck guys!

i dont think ill ever goto LCD...for $600 i can only get an 18" LCD...for $600 i can get an awesome 22" NF CRT (which is what i got right now)...

Oh as far as the guy who said to never go under 85 Hz...thats bologna...as long as you dont do 60, you are fine....anything 70 and above is fine for our eyes...

this is not a true flat monitor like a sony trinitron. It is a flat piece of glass over a curved screen to give the illusion of a flat screen. There are alot of monitors that are advertised as 'flat screen' that are not true flat tubes.

BTW sony is clearing out trinitrons especially at 17inch, you can get a 17inch trinitron aperture grill monitor with a .25 dpi for 99$ after rebate at BB while they still have them

No envision will touch this quality for anywhere near to that price.

i have an envision 775e running off a geforce 3 ti200 and it looks fine and sharp. the colors are good too. much better than my old compaq monitor. I run it at 1024x768, which is the ideal rez for this monitor. anything higher is crap and too small.
