We would like to invite those who have never taken the GMAT® exam before to apply to participate in free limited summer testing.

As a part of the transition from the current Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®) vendor to Pearson VUE and ACT, the Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®) will offer free limited GMAT® testing with the new vendors this summer. The testing will take place in 20 cities around the world from July 15 to August 15, 2005.

Selected candidates will take a complete Computer-Adaptive GMAT® (GMAT CAT®) that will become part of their permanent test records. These candidates will be reimbursed for the registration fee after completing the testing and questionnaire process. They will receive official GMAT® scores and will be able to send those scores to schools.

this isn't new. when i took the GMAT's last yr it was the GMAT CAT already and totally online. why didn't they offer this free testing last yr 🙁 🙁

Heh, I applied. It doesn't look like a hard test, even though I am Biochem major, might help with resume and stuff though 🙂

Thanks, we'll see how it goes.

Albis: How did you do on the test? What did you use to study for it?

The GMAT exam is not that hard. The math section is wierd but very easy to navigate with practice. I recommend that you buy the Kaplan GMAT book so you get the great CD they include. If you really want a top score, you should pick up the Kaplan GMAT 800 review book. The 800 review book has only the most difficult of problems so you get some really good practice out of it.

As for the verbal, it is what I expected. I personally have a harder time for the verbal section because of the grammar sections. I really think the Kaplan review books go over many of the basic rules you will need to do well on the grammar sections. Remember to pace yourself during the verbal section. It is much too easy to rush through it because you may find the "right" answer really quickly.

As for general tips, go over the Kaplan GMAT CD and download the two free practice exams off the official gmat website. Pacing yourself is very important as well. For the math section, remember to review ALL the basic math concepts. You don't want to reach a point and forget how to do something simple just because you haven't used it in years.

I highly recommend that you DO NOT take any review courses offered by Princeton Review, Kaplan ... etc. I currently teach part time for Kaplan and I've pretty much told you everything students find out for $1300 bucks. Just go over practice books slowly and don't rush the study process. You'll do fine and get into the B School you want 🙂

Albis, thanks for the tips. I appreciate your honesty about not taking prep courses, although I find it ironic that you teach one, heh.

One of my friends told me to only use the Princeton books and not Kaplan books, although that was for the GRE, not the GMAT.

I guess I'll buy as many books as I can and figure out the differences.

HAH!

Well, take it and see.

I'd take it seriously if I were you- well, I suppose only if business school is a serious goal for you, I guess.
