Yep, also make sure AA/AF are disabled in the settings. And I recommend you VXG 71.20 drivers, they are sweet. You can find them in Guru3d

these are very neat drivers....thank you

i know sp2 has an in box driver for a lot of cards. it was running the in box driver for my 9800 pro, and it nerfed performance in a lot of games. like a 20-30 fps difference.

That is why it is imprtant to do the SP2 (windows updates) always first before DX 9.0c and the actual display drivers....

not to hijack the thread, but has there been any problems with the 71.20 drivers?

I just wanna know, i've had enough problems with video already...(Leadtek card went bad after a couple of days, now i'm careful...)

I will try out all your suggestions, thanks for all the advice.

🙂

Would you guys suggest me uninstalling all of my drivers, keep SP2, and reinstall everything including Directx 9.0c?

SP2 is not to blame for this.

I see you have an Antec 450Watt PSU. How much power do you have on the 12V rail (in Amps). Also take some measurements under load and idle and post them. Your card might be throttling itself back.

Secondly at the top of this forum i have made a huge post with every concievable driver you could ever want. Just look there. I would advise going to the 67.03's then trying the 71 series drivers.

I would not think it would be PSU related because before I installed SP2, I was getting normal scores of around 11,500 in 3dmark03.

But nevertheless here is the link to my exact PSU. antec PSU

format, install xp, immediatly(on first boot), install sp2, then install chipset drivers, then audio/video drivers

my score is around 11,193 on 3dMark 03 using the 66.3s, I will try out those new beta drivers linked here earlier. I will post back on my new scores from the beta drivers.

The problem was the install order, many of you were correct in saying to install SP2 first then install the other drivers in case your wondering

My score reverted, once again back to 8600~..... sigh.

I just dont understand what could have happened.

I installed everything in the order I was told, then I preceded to install all my games, and misc software like powerDVD, and NERO, that is it. I made sure not to install any directx software that came with the games, I have 9.0c

When I did this, I could not get my Audigy2 to work. Drivers installed fine on SP2, but card wouldn't work. Creative's recommendation was to reinstall which I tried over and over. However, when I reinstalled Windows XP, then chipset, video and audio drivers, then SP2, everything including the Audigy2 now work fine.

I'm about to call EVGA and see if they know of any programs/updates that cripple the performance, but anyone else have any further advice?

Im getting some similar...Toms hardware claims that with 6800GT's in SLI mode on a ASUS A8N SLI, I should be getting around 90FPS in Doom3 timedemo1 (1600X1200 high quality no AA 8XAF), im getting around 30 frames less.. and only getting 15000 on my 03 benchmarks

So I'm about to build my new machine tonight....sounds like there are some issues with XP SP2....would I be better off just sticking with SP1 for now?

Here's a couple things to look at:

Make sure Side Band Addressing, Fast Writes, and AGP 8X are ALL enabled. A while back I got weird scores because my AGP setting got screwed up somehow, don't remember the fix 🙂

This may have been mentioned but just about everyone set's their driver performance slide bar to Best Performance (as opposed to Best Appearance)

Make sure all your AF and AA junk is set to application controlled.

If you installed Riva Tuner check to make sure it didn't detect your Core and RAM frequencies wrong, I'm currently dealing with this issue myself. If you do find this is the case, there's a setting in power user to disable cardtesting so you can set your freq's back where they're supposed to be.

EDIT: Btw, with regard to my setup I'm running SP2 with the 71.20's and I get ~12000 3DMark03 and about ~4400 in 05.

This is a really weird situation, but I'll cover the order of operations:
(1) Update mobo BIOS
(2) Slipstream SP2
(3) Install Windows
(4) Install chipset drivers
(5) Install vid drivers
(6) Install all else

That should take care of it.

Does that include a reformat somewhere? Or will just reinstalling windows work?

[EDIT]: Yeah that's kind of a stupid question....but here's another. You reformat AFTER updating the mobo BIOS (if you do that sort of thing), right?

I don't reformtat after BIOS update, nor do I after driver update. In fact I don't even use drivre cleaner upper thingermerbobs either. I don't have the need to.

Sorry for the confusion.
Yes, I would update your mobo BIOS (preferrably using a DOS based program to minimize problems). THEN do the REFORMAT and follow the rest of the steps.
As for nLite, I don't know why you can't DL it. I just went to the link that you posted, clicked on a mirror, and it wanted to DL. 😕
Let us know how that goes for you

I identified the problem guys, it was FRAPS, it crippled my benchies, and performance ingame, now I get around 60fps constant in Doom 3 at 1280x1024 4x AA 16xAF Ultra

So I am extremely pleased, I just can't believe it was that simple, all I had to do was uninstall FRAPS and delete folder and I saw my fps shoot up like a bat outta hell. So I tested this again, I reinstalled fraps, and benched, same thing happened, uninstalled and benchies went up again. I'm very saddened because I use fraps a lot and it never messed with my 9800XT before. I even tried the most recent version of fraps, to no avail it also crippled my benchies, so everyone just beware of the program.

If you use it, and have a 6800GT you could possibly get better scores with it uninstalled than with it installed, I hope this helps...

The ole 11,500 3dMark03 score is great....
I love my computer again
🙂

It just comes up with the page that says "DOWNLOAD: Link to this page, not the files directly. Make sure to enable Referer before downloading." Anybody know how I can fix that?
