Very confused about this on-site interview scheduling

I was told last week that the team wants to meet me in person. I responded right away and told HR that I am available on the requested interview date (this Thursday). I didn't hear anything for a week so I followed up on Sunday. She again asked if I am available this Thursday so I responded Yes. I didn't hear any confirmation until today.

I am flying from Washington DC to Chicago and all she sent me was an Interview Reimbursement Expense PDF that I have to send back after the interviews.

I'm looking at flights now and they're all $600+ on such short notice. I also prefer to fly a day before if possible instead of taking a 5:00am flight and doing badly on the interviews. Any thoughts? Will I get reimbursed for this expensive flight?

What does the reimbursement expense PDF? I'd imagine they have a limit but $600 seems reasonable as long as it is in coach.

There's no indication of max limit allowed. Just a section for transportation, hotel, meals, and additional expenses. With the roundtrip coach ticket + hotel + expensed meal, I'm estimating it to be around $800. Is that reasonable?

Sounds like it.

I took a flight to ATL from PROV with only about 2 weeks notice, and I believe that flight was around $500 round trip.

I was expected to front the money for the hotel though, and was reimbursed. Expect it to take anywhere from 2 to maybe up to 6 weeks.

ask HR to book the tickets for you, give them your preferred itinerary.

normally the company will arrange everything for you, you should only have to get reimbursed for meals.

Do you have time to call them up to confirm?

If not, then I would just book the flight and a hotel room and reimburse that plus any travel/meal expenses.

IMO, it would be unreasonable for them to not reimburse you for the hotel and expect you to wake up super early to catch a flight.

And since they got back to you so late, it's on them if flight prices are sky high.
