Just out of curiousity: what did you do with the $2000 left over?

If anyone else is looking at the T42P there is a great sale on the 2373HVU this week It's a .3ghz slower and no DVD writer but exactly like Ron's four grand laptop in every other respec.

I bought the 2373Q4U ($4299, sale price $3740). After adding extra batteries, Dock II, extra 1GB memory and a few other doodads, that got me over $5000. Then, I bought some software that I've had my eye on.

the 2373Q4U is the same as the Q1U except it uses Intel's new 801.11a/b/g wireless rather than IBM's version. It was on IBM's web site a few days ago, but has disappeared.

What kind of software development are you doing that you need a $6000 notebook? That seems pretty absurd to me. Like somebody already said, spend $3k on a notebook, then the other $3k on a kickass LCD screen.

Thanks rons

The Q1U is $2794 on the EPP site. Not bad considering what you paid.

Alas still it's about $1000 more than I want to spend....

Let us know if your T42 system is worth the $5k!

It would kill me to spend 5K on a T42 when the T43's are so close (gen availabilty feb 15 05), but if you gotta spend it you gotta spend it.
