Planning on buying said OS, wondering about the partition size (system disk) ....
Now, how many MB does that take, list several if you have tried Pro, Home or even 'Corporate' version...

Will 3000MB/3GB be enough, adding a few utility programs as well ?
I have 2GB now, for my Win98 partition, which seems to be more than adequate (no swapfile setting, 1GB memory).

My WinXP partition is 3GB, 2GB used right now. No programs installed on it. (by choice, at least)

XP "needs" at least 2 GB I believe but probably only uses about 1.5. You might have some troubles as you add more software though. You would want to turn off a lot of misc stuff like the System Restore feature because it can take up some significant space. Bad deal if you need it later though. As cheap as HD's are now, why not just get a "bargain" 20 GB? Heck, you might even be able to find some smaller ones for cheap over in the FS/FT Forum. Maybe something like a 6 GB would work nicely or just add another 3 GB.

Thanks for the replies !
Yeah, I know storage is cheap, should perhaps have mentioned that I have a 80GB disk...

The thing is, I've already formatted and partioned the drive, as well as installed an OS++, so was checking if the existing partitions would be adequate. (C:\System98 2GB, C:\SystemXP 3GB D:\Data etc...)

Any of you have any experience with dual-boot ? Specially a setup where there are 2(two) C:\ disks ?
Only one will be 'acitve' at any given time, while the other is 'hidden', but both are 'primary partitions'.
So when I want to boot winXP, my future boot program (Bootmagic?) will select wich partition is active from the two, and continue boot from that one.... I know about the C:\Win98 D:\WinXP dual boot option, but still.....

Will be using diskimages as backup for each system, so when 98 goes haywire, I just reformat that one, and pop in the image, and voila ! Shouldn't be any problem with MBR(masterbootrecord), or ?

Thx

your dual booting questions should be answered in the FAQs adequately, take a look, they are quite good.

Also, U may consider using partition magic or the like, because, truthfully, 3GB is alittle tight. Try more like 5GB for a practical minimum.

2 GB is too small for XP Pro. I tried it today because I had a hard drive two partitions and did not want to loose the data on the second partition. It installed but would run slow and freeze up very often for 10-30 seconds at a time. Finally just put in a 20GB drive and installed XP on a 5 or 6 GB partition. Working great now.
