Both drives are recognized by bios and during post, but once Xp loads up the DVD-rom drive, (G) is not visible in My computer, or Explorer, the only way to get to it is by IE and typing in G:\

I have the Lite-on(dvd) set as slave and the (Yamaha Crw-f1) as master

They are all recognized and operationable but the Lite-on isnt seen!!! what could cause this?

p.s. the crw-f1 i got on friday and is sweet!

have you jumpered the drive correctly?
sounds like the dvd was initially master, now it's slave!

yes the dvd used to be the only drive on its line, but now i added the crw-f1. the CRw is labeled as F drive and the dvd is G drive so i know that isnt the problem.

I know i have them jumpered correctly, Dvd as slave, and CD-rw as master with the correct side of the cable to both drives.

Bios recognizes both drives dvd as pri slave and cd-rw as pri master adn my hd as sec. master abit it7mx mobo 1.8a and the drives. Windows XP ;)
so any one else have an idea?

Try this:

primary master: hdd
pri slave: none

sec master: rw
sec slave: dvd

Just might work

My setup now looks like this

Pri master Crw-f1
Pri slave Hdd
(My cd-rw drive will not allow itself to be slave even when set to slave!! im confused there)

Sec Master Dvd
sec slave none

I have messed around with the drive letters, and have only been able to do one thing when changing them, that is to not be able to see both of the drives and only my Hard drive!!!! but that was solved quickly.

With that setup i still cant see my dvd drive and it makes me mad!!!!!

My Hard drive is partitioned into 3 drives if that makes a diference, for a total of 5 drives, 6 inc. floppy

floppy: a
hdd: c
hdd: d
hdd: e
Dvd: anything normally f cant see it but can access all files!
Cd-rw: G

any one else have suggestions?

ive tried ur suggestion sevenhunt and that doesnt work either!

any other suggestions?

more info

when i go into system management, storage, i can see the dvd driv, it just dont show up under my computer, or windows explorer!
the dvd drive also is visible in hardware management and isnt disabled or supposedly having no problems according to the little text box.

What options do i have from here?
