Very annoying MS Word 2000 error (and OpenOffice question)

Lonyo

Lifer
After using word for a bit, I get an error message saying "The instruction at "0x30203c6e" referenced memory at "0x0000033e". The memory could not be "read".

Then the window closed, but WINWORD as a process is still up, and I can only reopen the file once I have closed it.
It's happening on an A3 page with text, wordart and some pictures (jpg and gif).
Happens after about 3 mins I think, and it means I can't get any work done.
I tried reinstalling it, but hasn't done anything, might give it another go if no one can help.

On another note, kinda, is it possible to just download the Word equivelant part of OpenOffice? If I can't solve my MS Word problems I might have to use it instead, but on a 56k modem I don't wanna have to download 54MB or whatever the total size is.

TIA

I don't think you can just download the word processor app, but there are a other freeware office suites. This one is pretty popular too. The entire suite is only 16MB so it's a little more manageable for 56k users.

I need one that will do files that can be read by Word (that's what we have at school), can do A3 files, and dictures and stuff. I'll check out the one you suggested, as it says Word compatable.
