vertically mounted cd drive

how does this work? do I need a special drive? how do you put the cd in when it's mounted vertically?

What exactly are you trying to do? Do you have a case that is on its side? Usually CD ROMs will have little tabs on the side of the tray that hold in a CD if it's on its side. You should be fine.

It'll be vertical in a slim matx case
oh I see I guess you drop cd in and have on the 2 bottom tabs

do you think the cd could get noisy because of not being balanced when it's mounted vertically?

Any drive will work. I have a micro ATX tower and have used 3 different dvd, cdrw in it. They all work good. When placing the disk in, there are little tabs on the drawer of all conventional cd drives that hold the disk as it goes in. Balance is not an issue, the disk is clamped by the center hole. (Ever seen a CD Walkman?)
