My laptop, a nice ole HP Pavilion zd8000, has recently been plagued by increasing lines of vertical pixels. These lines (8 of them) started appearing through the last month. I have 2 magenta, 4 cyan, and 2 yellow lines. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to their placement, 4 are on the left, 1 is in the middle quadrant and 3 are on the right.

I already took the thing apart and tried to reseat the cables and whatnot to no positive result. Before I throw this thing against a wall, does anyone have a possible solution to this?

Nope. You will need to replace the LCD screen. (Some of the transistor array that is part of & drives the LCD is defective; eg, usually micro cracks in the circuity.)

Weve seen a ton of these in the shop and the issues can generally be repaired. HP's been pulling Posts regarding this model and this specific issue for over a year now and we have pages saved from prior posts. The issue on these is also seen on other Models/Manufacturers if utilizing the same components in the Video circuit. Im going to gtry to contact HP to see if they would send me boards to refurb for them. Be patient they will get the problem resolved. Whatever you do? Dont throw out the machine.

Dear jrusl,

Do not dispair. I think that a monitor with a laptop is very awkward. Why not do as i suggest and just order a new screen. As I noted, i had good success with LCDTech on Ebay. There are others. LCDTech was very reliable and helpful when I ordered. (I am too embarrassed to discuss my order problems but I will say that it was all my fault.) Anywho, ole Lcdtech exchanged some emails and fixed me up with what I needed. A coupla hunerd bucks and you'll be back on the road in no time. It is not a difficult repair. there are online instructions even. Google for "HP screen replacement".
