I'm very anti-OCZ and would never give them my money, BUT! It wasn't my money that got this drive, so I'm going to give it a go. I'm replacing my 2x intel G1 160GB raid0 drives with this single 240GB Vertex 3. This also gives me the opportunity to upgrade any existing systems I have that don't have an SSD yet with my old intels. I'm about to throw it in and reinstall in a little while, so here's hoping the BIOS picks it up and windows installs right away!

I would still be cautious of sleep transitions and disable them at first. Most issues seem to be resolved by now but better safe than sorry for the initial testing.

What mobo is it going on? I assume you have sata3 so that would mean a P67 or AMD 6G, right?

If either of those systems you need to be sure that hot plugging/swapping is enabled as it appears to be a glitch with many mobo's default settings. Having it disabled leaves the ports in some type of legacy mode or something and can lead to bsod's and lags during operation. mobo mfgrs are supposed to be working on bios updates to make it enabled by default. ASUS boards seem to have the least issues so far with Gigabyte being the worst. Good Luck with it.

PS. doubt that 1 drive will beat the raided Intels but is still faster than most(if not all) other 240GB drives though.

it's p67. my WEI for HDD is still maxed at 7.9 with the single v3, so i'm happy! i've got an msi board so hopefully i'll be ok. i generally try to steer clear of gigabyte. too many bad experiences with those.
 
guess it's time to look for a new firmware. this studdering is really irritating. computer hangs up and i can't open or close anything. only thing i can do is move the mouse and wait a few minutes. SOOO ANNOYING!

EDIT: of course there's nothing on ocz's site for new firmware. once again it's frozen and i get to play the freaking waiting game. already regretting this. thank goodness i haven't formatted my intel's yet....

meh.. the v3 was free for me, so it was kind of a no brainer... still... the fact that i'm considering going back to my G1s as opposed to a FREE ocz drive says a lot...
 
I consider myself lucky with my Agility 2, it's fine. I won't ever buy another OCZ product again, though. Shi***est company in the computer business, IMO.
 
looks like i have the sleep bug too. it also boots slightly slower than my G1s did. glad i didn't pay for this drive. nice to see they haven't changed even with the new SF drives...
 
Win 7 sleep, AMD CPU, ASUS mobo. Ye ole Western Digital 64GB SSD. No sleeping issues. Same drive in Pentium laptop; no sleeping issues. Not arguing WD SSD are prime, but maybe it's because there's no Intel Rapid Store LPM in these systems.

That's a shame, I used to buy a lot of their RAM, in fact three of the machines in my house have OCZ RAM. Looks like the marketroids took over. Of course, in my experience, engineers ain't so good at running companies either.
 
well the stuttering isn't completely gone... it still stutters, but not nearly as bad. it only doe sit for a few seconds at a time vs minutes at a time like before. this definitely feels like a rushed product with buggy, beta firmware. my intel G1s in raid0 definitely felt faster, especially since there was never any lag or stutter. maybe i can sell this drive and buy a 510 since i got it free anyway. it's got low miles on it 🙂

Well crap, I was right about to order 2 of these for a sweet Raid. Lag and stuttering kinda kills it. So what drive is next on the list to grab.. The M4 ?
 
i was looking at an intel 510, or the plextor drive... or just getting 2 new 320s and raid0'ing them. if you wait about 6 months i'm sure ocz will have a stable firmware 🙂

6 Months?! Is that how long it took them to fix the C300 and Vertex 2 issues? Grr, back to reading reviews.

Isn't that odd how NOT ONE reviewer spoke of these wide spread lag/stuttering issues? Nothing a paid reviewer has to worry about though! $$$ Actually, when was the last time you read a review that said, this item sucks, don't buy it. Yea right, lolz.

LOL you guys are funny! one dude here has issues and you're all convinced?

Personally, I think most of it's a mobo/driver bug that comes out with the use of these particular controllers just as it has in the past. Same sh*t, different cause. V3 240GB runs fine on my machine and is absolutely awesome for those running raids so far. Here's one similar to tech960's setup right here just to show that this issue is not everyones.

now while I can understand the frustration with not being able to just plug and play the drive?.. making blanket statements about drives being junk only serves to make it look like..
1. you don't know what you're talking about,
2. are simply another hater and are happy to report back to the nest,
3. or didn't want to spend the time to troubleshoot the issue the Sandforce controller has with the other hardware/drivers on that particular system.

I suspect it's a combo of #2 with heavy emphasis on #3 more than #1(but threads like this make me wonder a bit). lol

But regardless of all that it will still be a top rated controller whoever packages the components together and slaps their name on it. So in a nutshell here?.. Sandforce, Intel ,and mobo mfgrs themselves are the bigger bastards with most of the blame here. The rest falls on the consumers ability to deal with any potential hassles of getting it merged into their system.

Once the mobo mfgrs, Intel, and Sandforce get it worked out(and they surely will with credibility/sales on the line) these speedbumbs will quickly disappear. Many of the die hards have already worked though them with known workarounds for the time being. In the meantime some will fall back to other controllers and scream bloody murder though.

thanks for your helpful insight grobster. i reinstalled several times with multiple drivers. am i hater? absolutely! of all of the ocz ssd's i own, more than half have stopped working and had to be rma'd. to have to jump through hoops to get this new drive to work is a bit of an annoyance to say the least. for $550, you bet your ass i would expect this drive to be able to just be plug 'n play.

You call a dozen guys over there who don't even know how to implement some known workarounds.. widespread? Do you have any idea how many of these drives are in the market now?

Even with the Sandforce controller chip shortage.. there are thousands of V3's out there already. And some of those noobs over there aren't even doing the basic power options tweaks such as setting to high performance, never shutting the drive down, etc. That alone has fixed quite a few issues lately along with the hotswap settings fixing most others.

Then there's the known issue with H/P67 series boards. This from an ASUS beta-tester
the hot-swapping label is misleading. Set to disabled puts the Intel controller into a type of safe mode. This was done for compatibility issues with some drives, mostly older ones. At initial setup this setting should be set to enabled for all ports. Only if you have a drive that doesn't work properly should that individual port be changed to disabled. I had asked that enabled be made the default setting before the Vertex3 was ever released. It appears that some of BIOS' are not being released set like this with the remainder of fixes to follow.

Then theres a known LPM issue with RST drivers.

I can go on and on here. Point is that there are far too many variables with all the new platforms, drivers, and hardware to put the blame on any one component or software. Can't really expect a SSD firmware to fix all the issues and only time will sort it all out.
