Verizon, you won.

I'm curious what device did you previously have?
I ask because in some cases I don't get why 'unlimited data' is so great if one has to limit their device choice.

Galaxy Nexus. I didn't (nor my parents) wanted to dish out 500+ for a phone. My mom's plan was going to be up for an upgrade in December but I realized that I couldn't wait that long. Plus my dad needs a new phone and wanted to keep his unlimited. I don't really need the unlimited anymore because I'm in college where wifi is plentiful plus if I really need to torrent something I can use a VPN.

I am in close to the same boat but Verizon isn't going to win. Also tired of not being able to upgrade phones. I am very very close to going with AT&T Next. I use around 5GB's a month and my wife uses a gig or less. Price would be about the same between the two but could upgrade every year with AT&T. Verizon is certainly faster around here a 30+mb/s around most of town. AT&T is currently "4G" and upgrading to LTE. I tested out an AT&T mifi last month and averaged 7-9, for me certainly enough on a cell phone. I won't go to an Verizon Share plan just on principle.

another one bites the dust! I usually use about 10~ gb a month but I'm sure I could tone it down to the 6GB plan they offer unlimited people...but I don't want to, I like the freedom of unlimited for travel etc.

I can def understand taking an upgrade price though, buying off-contract new phones can be expensive.

Well if you were using GNex then you were always losing anyway...
Yeah I know. It was just got to that point.

I have wifi everywhere and will have it for the next 4 years. I have no need for 4G.

Doesn't really matter. Where I am I'm always in a busy area and I use 5-8gb a month and they started throttling me. I have been off contract for a while and my next phone is a nexus 6 and leaving Verizon.

Bought a 4S with my last NE2 the week before they kicked in upgrade fees. Sold it here. Kept my unlimited. Used wife's upgrade last year, then put her flip phone back on and had a nice new Lumia 928. Just transferred my upgrade to her line in August and bought (and resold) an LG G3. Then used sister in law's upgrade for a free Icon for me, put her flip phone back on, and got her bill reduced by $20-25/month.

Still have my unlimited. :colbert:

I'm not planning to give up my Verizon unlimited anytime soon. My ISP choices are either 768kb DSL or satellite. My Galaxy S3 with foxfi works just fine. Besides if I change plans my wife will most likely lose her 4gb promo plan (4 for price of 2).

The funny thing is metro has good coverage in my Area and the 60 dollar unlimited plan doesn't throttle. My sister gets really good speed on that plan.

Bad move. I managed to get a Galaxy s5 in one of the loopholes, but if I hadn't I'd spend 200 on a G2 before getting rid of unlimited.

Yeah, the one where you activate a phone on a separate line and move it over to you main line?

They recently kind of closed it by making it require a data plan.

i got rid of my unlimited plan when upgrading to the ip6+ too, coming from an ip4. i use like 1-1.5gb of data/month anyways so i'm not too concerned.

Works fine if you have a metered line on the account.

My plan:
L1 - Unlimited, GS3
L2 - Unlimited, G3
L3 - 2GB, GS3
L4 - dumb phone

I used the L4 upgrade to get the G3 while that loophole was available. Now I can use L3 to upgrade whatever since it already has a metered data plan. We'll see what Verizon's next move is....

I don't use a ton of data but I'm still unhappy about the principle of paying more for less, sort of. Plus, once I finally install a signal booster at work I'll be tethering more to get around some of the internet restrictions.

What's so amazing about the iP6?

Just a better iPhone. Bigger screen, faster CPU etc. Nothing revolutionary compared to Androids, just a better iPhone. If your wondering why so many are giving up unlimited for it then it's a different reason, money. Not many people are willing to spend $700+ on a cell phone. By either subsidizing it or doing a Next type program is a lot more agreeable to the average persons pocketbook.

I'm on a GNex VZUnlimited and I couldn't take it anymore. I broke down and bought a G2 on swappa for $220.... i'm anxiously awaiting the arrival since i just cn't take 4hr battery life and 5 second screen transitions anymore!! But since i use 15-30GB/mo, i'm holding to my plan for dear life!

Unless you actually need to have 30GB of data per month. Then unlimited starts looking pretty good I would thing

Disclaimer: No math was done, just talking out of my ass.

I certainly agree. It comes down to which is more important, cheaper phone (or at least less out of pocket at the time) or unlimited data. Verizon is banking on cheaper phones. Given the threads across various forums I visit Verizon is winning in getting people of unlimited. They are losing in my extremely unscientific count that about half of those are moving to other providers because of how Verizon has handled it.

Well from my experience with Android phones (which has been amazing, with root access of course), however, iPs can stay new for a longer time (if that makes sense). My mom's iP5 still feels new, it still works wonders for what I do (texting, reddit, etc). My gnex, after a year or so, it started to show signs of slowness.
