Rant alert. Please turn back around if you don't wanna hear it.

So I have a blackberry curve. It sucks and never works. I went in and got a replacement a few weeks ago. This new one has been even worse. Then, apparently verizon is fucked something up and broke the email system? No emails to my phone for the last 3 days. Ok fine, its a pain but I can live with it, and maybe I can complain and try to get a new phone.

But now something happened that actually pissed me off. I'm sitting here, texting my girlfriend(she wants to see avatar, ugh) and I send a text off. Couple minutes later some random number texts me back saying "who is this?" I respond with the same, saying they texted me first. They say no, I did. So I ask what I said. Apparently the text that was supposed to be sent to my girlfriend got sent to this random person that isn't in my phone book. WTF lol. seriously? I mean it was a harmless text but it could have been something private or important. Wonder what verizon is gonna say when I give them a call. I'd love to get an upgrade out of it, to be honest. Not even a free phone, I'd pay, just want the upgrade status...

Well thats the end of my rant. Pretty weak at the end I know

Thread seems to be decidedly about cell phones and cell phone service... I'm sending it to the place for such discussions (from OT) - DrPizza

lol. Blackberry. How sad it must be to have to use such garbage. Get with the times and get an iPhone. That way you'll have the best phone humanity has to offer. Nothing else on the market even comes close, so why bother with anything else? Only fools would ignore this advice. Everyone knows this.

AT&T does this too. I'm surprised you've never encountered this before, it happens to people I know all the time.

Since you apparently don't live in a basement and have had sex, skip the Droid :D

ya? I kind of want the droid actually lol. at least when it first came out. the hype seems to have died down now though.

and I'd stop using a cell phone before I switched to AT&T. well maybe not that far, but I have no desire to do that. Also I've never heard of this happening to anyone I know. What if I gave out some insider trading info :)

Obviously, you've never used the Moto Droid. Awesome piece of technology, on a stable 3G network.

The Moto Droid is actually the best phone you can get right now. At least, until early next year when HTC begins releasing their 2010 Snapdragon based products.

He'd be an idiot to switch from Verizon to AT&T. AT&T's network sucks.
Well, unless he lives in one of the regions where AT&T sucks the least out of all available competitors. e.g. Cingular/ATT is the best choice in my area.

You can spot the T-Mobile users in my area easily. They're the ones walking around in front of their house or on the sidewalk holding up their phones trying to get a signal. I'm not kidding. I've seen a half-dozen people doing this and I always ask "T-Mobile?", and all of them have replied, "Yep." I knew this because we got T-Mobile first and had to go outside in order to get one or two bars, the signal was so weak, even though the T-Mobile reps assured us we were in their coverage area.

After a few calls to technical support over three days, we bitched enough that T-Mobile let us out of the contract free and clear, gave us a full refund.

Cingular/ATT signal is always good, in or out of the house. What's strange is that a field technician/engineer told us that T-Mobile was using Cingular/ATT's tower in my area (they don't have their own). lol

Why someone wants a super expensive cell phone that has all the bells and whistles the human imagination can come up with is beyond me.

I use a prepaid cell phone that is basically just a cell phone, it costs me a grand total of about $8.00 a month, the display is only B/W, and as a result, I seldom have to recharge the battery.

For internet, I have recently opted to go with Verizon 3G EVDO, which is a super expensive and only just beats satellite as the second worst broadband internet choice.
I would rather have cable or DSL, but at my location neither of them are available.

But believe it or not, when 4G becomes available nationwide, 4G wireless will be the fastest internet on the planet.

I find that hard to believe. I don't see 4G hitting 100Mb/s like fiber.

I was on Alltel and since Verizon bought them I haven't been able to make calls or texts from my parents house in Canada. It's kinda lame really. So that's my rant.

Sounds suspicious to me. I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T was responsible for TMo's weak signal if they're using the same towers.

I don't think when it comes to AT&T its a matter of phones or service, I hate AT&T because of their customer service. They are the dumbest people I have ever dealt with, have tried to charge me multiple times for things I didn't want, added on promos without telling me which eventually expire and just fail all around. I'm really tempted to move to T-Mobile, especially with this new advertisement of unlimited everything for less than $50.

I could switch the network over to Cingular/ATT on the T-Mobile phone and the signal was great. Change the network back to T-Mobile and the signal disappeared again. Don't know what was going on but when I told the T-Mobile field engineer this, he literally said "Really! That piece of information is very helpful to us" in a sort of "Ah-HA!" tone, as though he now understood what was happening (though he didn't expound on it). He put me on hold for a while and the next person who came back offered us a full refund.

T-Mobile being on an AT&T tower is not unusual. A lot of cell services use the same physical towers. It works this way: Whatever cell phone service gets into an area first,
builds the tower, then others lease space on it. Or in some cases American Tower or Crown Castle, own both the land and erect the tower. They then lease space on the tower and ground space for the equipment cabinets. And just so you know, T-Mobile is still mostly 2G and is still rolling out 3G networks (soon to be obsolete as 4G is only about 1-2 years out) .. I work in the cellular field, engineering the paths between the switches and also out to the LEC and tandems.

Yep, I'd say the Motorola Droid on Verizon, or whatever T-Mobile decides to call the HTC Nexus One, or whoever is going to have branding privileges (and whoever the term Nexus One belongs to might already be the branded name).
Really, pick the network you want, then find their best phone.

The Droid is easily, easily, Verizon's best phone, and is an amazing device at that. I'm basically in love with it after playing with so many various devices. iPhone is a nice device, but is crippled but the network. The Droid is easily the 2nd best phone (it's up to developers to craft it into the 1st best phone, the app choice and developer support is the only thing the Droid lags the iPhone in), and is on the best network in the US.

You mean best phone for you? I assure you for my needs nothing comes close to touching an iPhone. The Droid is nice, but it cannot do what I need my phone to do. So the Droid is totally off my radar.

I'll just assume you've never owned a really good phone.

I'm just referring to how people often pick sides now. Its hilarious to me when fanboys fight fanboys over an electronics device. What's the big deal? Who cares if someone doesn't like the iphone? Or the droid? If you have something that another person doesn't like... Okay? What's the problem?

I assure you, no phone can come as close as the Droid in my hands. It does everything I need it to and more, and just completely integrates into my life.
And I've barely scratched the surface as far as capabilities go. And I haven't even rooted it yet (that's next, once fully cooked ROMs start getting released).

:p

Just goes to show, a phone and a personal attachment to it, is just that, personal. Everyone has their own varying needs and wants in a phone.
