Preface:
I got a phone and service for the first time a month and a half ago. I chose Verizon because it had the best coverage in the area I need (Eastern Illinois University) and it also had the IN minutes (all my friends have verizon so talking to them is "free"). Just under a month after I got the phone it was dropped and the front LCD cover was cracked. So aww crap, it's broken. Gotta get it fixed. I call LG and get the parts I need for my almost new phone (VX7000) which was just released to the public about 2 weeks before I bought it.
Story:
So I have the parts and have to drive over an hour to get to a verizon store with an on-site technician. I get there and explain that I dropped my phone, I have the parts to replace it and am wondering how much it's going to cost to get the parts put on (just the "glass" covering the LCD). He tells me it's going to be $15. I look at him and in the most calm voice I can muster after being told this say, "Are you kidding me? $15 is outrageous, it's only going to take you 10 minutes and I have the parts." He tells me that it's the normal service and labor charge. I ask him if there is any way he can just tell me how to do it myself so I can save $15. He tells me all there really is to it is knowing the contact points but he wont show me where they are because that's what he gets paid to do. So I just accept it and go on and tell him to do it.
He gives me back the phone when he's done and I give him the $15. I make it ouside the door and notice there's a smudge on the screen that was just replaced, no big deal. I try to clean it off and IT"S ON THE INSIDE. The jerk does this for a living and there is a DISTINCT FULL fingerprint on the INSIDE of the LCD cover. So I bring my phone back inside and tell him that first off, I had handed him my phone with a belt clip and now I dont have one (guess i'm lucky he smudged my LCD cover). So he turns around and grabs my clip (knew exactly where it was -- doesn't really mean anything just a detail). I hand him the phone and say there's a fingerprint on the inside of the screen. He says "ok i'll clean it." So i was right, the first time it only took him 10 minutes. This time it took him 20, just to clean the screen and put the cover back on. The guy hands it back to me and says, "here you are." I check over the phone to make sure it didnt happen again or the guy made some phone call on it for me making him do his job right.
I turn to walk away and say, "yea, you're right, you are sorry for wasting 20 un-necessary minutes of my time"
If you are going to charge $15 for a service that takes 10 minutes that you do every day that you pay someone to do, at least make them do it right. This guy wouldnt have a huge fingerprint on his phone he couldnt get off and he shouldnt give a phone to someone in that condition.
Some people need punched in the face. This guy was one of them.
EDIT: CLIFFS NOTES
1. Get Verizon service
2. Drop phone and crack LCD cover
