Wouldn't I be able to purchase an external USB device to pick up the signal the same way the PC Card does?

NO.

That siad, you can get a PC CARD-to PCI adapter (if you don't ahvea laptop), pay $60/month, and get wireless internet:D
Thaaaat's what I was thinking.

Unfortunately, it clearly states in their TOS that it's only allowed to be used for internet and email. :(

well, would you really want to download files at 600 to 800 kb/s? it's great for browsing but really is slow for downloading files.

according to what I've heard on edgadget, this one guy tried bitorrent on it, used 300MB or so, and got a $x000 bill
I'm sure it is fine with a pc if you stick to light browsing

WTH? I'm guessing he must have connected his phone to a laptop. If you buy a data plan then its unlimited, period. If you use your phone to surf via a laptop then over useage can and most likely will be charged.

or he was on a limited data plan. ;)
The plan is called "unlimited" BUT you cannot download games, movies, or music, or use P2P.

That's boosheeeeeit then. Figures.

800 Kbps is 100 KB/sec, I could deal with that.

But rather pointless as what it restricts is exactly what I'd want it for.

Damn I need to find a decent wireless broadband provider.

Campus network not so hot, eh?
You are correct, sir.

In what ways?
No ports are open except for 80 and 5190 (AIM). Not one other.

did you try putting a sniffer on the network or would that get you into trouble
They might see it if I did that, there's really no point anyway, I can clearly see that nothing else works. :p

Well let's suppose I got a cheap dial-up connection and dialed on at the same time I was on the college network. What would happen? How would programs know which connection to use?

They wouldn't. You'd have merged connections. My guess would be you'd still not be able to use P2P, etc. unless you disable the network connection.

Merged connections... But each program still has to get its connection from one source or the other, how would it know which one to use?
