Verizon wireless broadband

How do plans like this work? Could it provide internet access to my desktop with the right equipment? And if I paid for such a plan, wouldn't it essentially be a regular cell phone plan at the same time?

I think it would work with your laptop card that you have registered with them. It wouldn't work with anything else except bluetooth enabled phones that could use the service

If you choose to keep your existing handset for voice calls, you will need to add an additional mobile number to your account for the PC cards. The PC cards have their own mobile number and ESN/MEID (Electronic Serial Number/Mobile Equipment Identifier) just like a wireless phone. Some PC cards are not voice capable, such as the PC 3220, the PC 5220, and the Sierra Wireless Aircard 555D.

How do PC Cards work? PC Cards allow you to establish a connection to the Internet using a laptop computer when you are within the Verizon Wireless National Enhanced Services Area. Verizon Wireless PC Cards are designed to work in any PC laptop computer running Windows 98SE, Windows XP or Windows 2000 that is also equipped with a PC Card slot (PCMCIA Type 2). My PC Card won?t connect. What should I do?
There are several things you can try, in order:

Try rebooting the computer.


Make sure card is seated properly in the PC Card slot.


If you purchased your PC Card through Telesales, you may still need to accept the terms of service.


Call the automated line at 877-807-4646 with your 12-digit order number, the PC Card wireless phone number, and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.


Uninstall the software through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs then reinstall the software.


Verify the computer has the latest Operating System updates and hotfixes


Note: Hotfixes are available on the Microsoft website.


Try running Activation again through the VZAccess Manager Options menu. Go to Options > Activation...


Try running the Setup Wizard again through VZAccess Manager Options menu. Go to Options > Run Wizard...


If none of these options works, you?ll need to call Data Technical Support at 866-788-9387.

Can I get an external antenna to improve my signal?
All of the Verizon Wireless PC Cards come with either a removable antenna or an extra connection port for an external antenna. This can be used when you are inside a building or a car to help pull in a stronger signal and improve your connection in fringe or low reception areas. Verizon Wireless provides two types of external antennas:


Magnet Mount can be placed on the roof of a car
Window Mount is mounted on the edge of a car window or attached to the window in a building. An adaptor cable will be required to connect the external antenna.

The external antennas and adaptor can be purchased on the accessories section of www.verizonwireless.com.

ya, i have an EVDO account. currently using an Audiovox 6600. so it's like a blackberry account where i pay $49.00 / month for evdo bandwidth (600 to 800 kb/ sec).

cool think is, i can use my Audiovox 6600 as a modem to my laptop so that i can get evdo bandwidth anywhere in the northeast (pretty much).

it's pretty sweet.

how? what is your question exactly?

you realize of course that EVDO is an extension of CDMA2000. only verizon and sprint use this technology in the US right now.

but the signal itself is nothing without a server that authenticates you and allows you to access the internet.

you might be able to get a usb receiver of EVDO signal but how would you authenticate to either verizons or sprints network without having an account with them?

800 Kbps is 100 KB/sec, I could deal with that.

But rather pointless as what it restricts is exactly what I'd want it for.

WTH? I'm guessing he must have connected his phone to a laptop. If you buy a data plan then its unlimited, period. If you use your phone to surf via a laptop then over useage can and most likely will be charged.

The plan is called "unlimited" BUT you cannot download games, movies, or music, or use P2P.

What are you looking to do? Also, why can't you get service from Comcast?

Looking to: use POP3, FTP, Steam, video conferencing.

Can't get ANY cable or DSL service in my dorm apparently because of the physical infrastructure of the cable and phone lines. Service can't be provided to one room.
