Price mostly. I can save a bit on the bill. It also doesn't hurt that there's more GSM phone options.

Most major devices are on Verizon too (notably no Nexus devices now) so I can overlook that. However, is it worth paying more to stay on this XLTE? It'll be about a $70 per month difference.

Depends on how you feel about speeds then. I have at&t with an S4 with 3 bars LTE, and average around 5Mbps down, and 4.5Mbps up at 620pm. At work I get about 3Mbps down, but only 1Mbps up, with 2 bars LTE. Is the boost in speed worth another $70? Only you can decide that.

Meh I get those speeds on HPSA easily. On LTE I'm well over 20mbps. I suppose YMMV. At LAX I was hauling in less than 1mbps on LTE.

My friend's Moto X can't hit the speeds either. Wonder if the processor has something to do with it.

My problem with ATT is they can never seem to hold a call indoors, no matter what city I'm in.

As far as I can tell that is what its doing. I also see no way, uness someone wrote an app, to switch between the two.

Curious how my gnex was able to pul mid 30's back in the early days of LTE, now my brand new icon can only do that on xlte.

One question I do have though is whether this will improve LTE signal? Will it penetrate buildings better or be about the same?
 
As long as the signal is there, compatible VZW phones and those released going forward will use both bands simultaneously, aggregating bandwidth across both sets of frequencies.

Edit: Can't find confirmation that VZW is doing aggregation, it might simply be a failover network. Will need to do some more research later.

when i tested yesterday when i read this post i got

0.34 Mbps down and 0.51 Mbps up

Yes that was on 4g 2 bars and im in an area that says it was upgraded
later i got 15/3
then 4.6/4.7

this morning it was 21.44/6.86 - which is about as fast as it alwys has been. dont think ive ever seen it over 25 down and 15 up ever
 
If it's on in Charlotte, I can't tell. I have a Pantech UML295, which is listed as a compatible device. Still getting around 5Mbps up/down.

I'm working closer to uptown Charlotte tomorrow, might try it again to see if there's just a limited number of towers up.

Well, if all you're doing is speed tests then yea. A single speed test over T-Mo LTE for me (12-25 mb/s) gobbles up about 80+ mb.
 
I'm quite happy with my T-Mobile speeds. With HSPA, I get 5/1 speeds. With LTE, I get 20/10 speeds. There's nothing I can't do on my phone with a 5/1 connection. Most of my city is already covered with LTE.

I also have truly unlimited LTE speeds.

its pretty sad that i can go to nogales and hit 28mbps (before this new stuff) but here in the valley i still cant peak over 14. i ran the speedtest a few times last night when i was finally in 4g territory, and never got above 9mbps. it was usually at 4ish. and down around 1.4 for about 40 minutes. yay.
