I have told this story to 10 different CSR's & been ignored by 2 supervisors w/ promises of 2 call backs & a "360 review of their superiors" etc. blah, blah, blah......so bear with me....

Cliff notes:

- I order a phone Monday to arrive Wednesday for my wife's bday which is Friday.

- Wednesday phone doesn't arrive so I call. CSR forgot to take me thru "Terms & Conditions" which means they didn't send my phone.

- I call & complain telling how I'm now screwed for my wife's bday, (I wanted to give to her Friday a.m.) but he promises me he'll get out FEDEX overnight, etc. & I'll have Friday a.m. for sure. (too late to send Wed night so had to go Thursday which is today)

- Having learned my lesson, I call to get new tracking # today. HE SENT IT TWO-DAY.......It will not be here til Monday!!!!!!

- I come unhinged & go postal on CSR's.

-They can't send me a new phone cuz it's too late.
-They can't make new order because the phone already at FedEx has contract tied

-I explain that they have screwed me now TWICE! Why am I paying for their mistake??

-I propose I buy another phone at the local store so she can at least open SoMETHING TONIGHT/TOMORROW!

-They offer to let me use *my* upgrade on *my* phone line, but explain that it'll extend my contract.

-I tell them, "No, we do this all on the wife's phone #". Why should *I* have to pay for *YOUR* mistake??? TWICE!?!?!?!?!?

-NOBODY at VZW cares. It's THEIR contract and yet they act powerless until that other phone arrives. Hey Verizon.....it's YOUR CONTRACT!!!!

In what other business does this kind of sh!t happeN??

I am at such a loss of words, I don't even know what to say.

P.S. 2 years ago I bought my wife's Droid Maxx explaining it to VZW was for her birthday, please don't blow up her phone w/ text messages, etc. What do they do?? They accidentally TURN HER PHONE OFF that night which was a dead giveaway to her that she was getting a new phone.

(facepalm)

Methinks its time you think of a different company next time you plan on surprising her LOL. Of course knowing your luck you'll get a "WELCOME TO _________" in the mail the day before her bday thus ruining yet another surprise.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Verizon can DIAF.

Go to the store and buy the phone you want full price. That'll tell them.

Weak rant. You waited til the week of your wife's birthday. What part of dealing with a phone company didn't you understand? Take her to a quiet dinner. Unless she's like you, she won't care about the phone being late.

1. Get a nice card and write a personal note in it.
2. Print a picture of the phone and place it in the card. When she opens the card, explain that the shipment got screwed up and her gift will be a few days late.
3. Take her out to a nice dinner and celebrate.
4. Next time buy the gift more than 4 days in advance.

Why didn't you just get it at the store?

That's what I'm wondering. What I always do with electronics is open it, charge it, make sure it works and has no defects, install any screen protectors etc. Put it all back in the box as if it was brand new with a full charge. That way I make sure everything is good to go.

Nothing like going to plug in that new device and start it up to find out it has a hundred dead pixels or something.

Only reason I didn't buy in store is because they're the iPhone 5C 32gb promos right now. Colors are hit & miss. I didn't wait til the week of to shop so much as I waited til the last week to "buy" because no store in So Cal had the green or yellow one she implied liking. And believe me, yes, I'd MUCH rather have a phone in the hand than 2 in the bush! ;)

Anyway, it's not the only thing I got her, but, yes, VZW sucks blue whale. To be the executor of a contract that you say you just can't do anything about is ludicrous. I once, literally had a car dealer offer me a whole replacement CAR before to right a wrong. And VZW can't balls up to a $600 phone.

Nice thing for them is that they can afford to just not care. 1 grain of sand amongst billions is no biggie. I could walk into Sprint's door tomorrow but VZW couldn't care less if I did.

Then again, I don't think that Sprint or AT&T or Tmob or anybody else would care any more.

Customer service in the marketplace today just sucks all the way around.

I hate Verizon as much as the next guy but I have never had an issue with the online store. Every phone I have ordered has come within two days.

As for buying it online vs the store:
1) The store is full of idiots that push one or two phones and if you don't want one of those two they ignore you or flat out lie and say they don't have what you want in stock
2) The discount for online orders is instant, the one for instore purchases is in the form of a mail-in-rebate

Well put yourself in their shoes...no matter how badly they treat you, you continue to give them money. What incentive is there for them to improve their customer service?

I have never had that happen. they don't care what you buy, they get commission anyhow.

or best buy...they sell the same devices. Unless you are banking on the online promo price.

The problem is that Verizon has the best coverage in the country, with AT&T a close second. And both companies have the same attitude. Makes me wonder why the govt bothered to breakup the old Bell systems "monopoly" . These two companies are the linear successors of the old AT&T and "baby" Bells and some would argue they have more of a stranglehold on telecom than they ever did before.

so here's what I would do.

1. hire a midget with a bronze shield.
2. hire a midget with a Taser.

those are for protection, not really part of the Verizon or the gift giving then. The next part of the plan involves a time machine. do you have a time machine? you're going to need a time machine for this to work. Go back in time and purchase a puppy. when you get back from your time-trip, the puppy will be like 17. you went back 17 years to buy the puppy. I should have mentioned that before you programmed the time machine. anyway, the old dog, after a long and happy life, will probably need to be put down. I know, it's sad, but such are the trials of life. Take him to the vet on her birthday. She'll be so upset, she'll totally forget the whole phone thing. when Monday rolls around, the morning period will be over and the new phone will show up. hey, a snappy new phone! you're the greatest husband ever.

anyway, that's what I would do.
