can this be done? I want to use the internal GPS and google maps or microsoft live and download the maps and use the gps reciever for free gps. I know there are some phones out there that you can flash to do this, does anyone know of any?

This thread belongs in Gadgets Gear and Phones IMO.

Yum... waffles sounds good there, oldsmo!

Have you checked out that Gadgets, Gear, and Phones forum yet? I heard that they offer a lot of cell phone advice there ;)

You need to get a PDA phone. XV6800, the upcoming HTC Diamond and Touch Pros will do it. Anything else, you're out of luck.

VZNavigator is an awesome program. Try it, you might like it. It doesn't have any stupid fancy satellite pictures, but it'll talk to you unlike GMaps/Live Maps.

There are only 3 Verizon phones that will give free GPS: BlackBerry Curve/Pearl with 4.5 update (via BlackBerry Maps only) and the BlackBerry Storm. But I haven't seen anyone use BlackBerry Maps, Google Maps, or Live Search on a mobile phone with preloaded map data on an SD card. I could be wrong, but I think all carriers require you have a data plan or wifi in order to use these mobile apps.
