Verizon Online: Anyone ever had success pricematching another site?

We upgraded to a Thunderbolt Sunday through Verizon Wireless online. Cost us $149. Haven't activated it yet. Well, today, Best Buy has it for free upgrade or new line. Wondering if anyone's had success getting Verizon to pricematch.

People are still upgrading to Thunderbolts? 😵
Yes, that $149 upgraded price you paid is a scam. How confident are you that the phone would last 2 years from now?

lol, thanks for the vote of confidence. It's 4G LTE and had better user reviews than the Inc2 and other 4G phones and was better priced than the Razr.

Sometimes one has to be blunt to get the message across.

If I were you, I'd return the phone(s) immediately ASAP. Forget about even trying to do a price match.
Galaxy Nexus will be released in 1-4 weeks. It's dual core, LTE, and not bungled down by "Sense". It will last you 2 years.

Return it, that was a terrible deal. I can't see how reviews could be better, unstable (maybe thats been fixed), terrible battery life, and the internals date from 2009.

Other than waiting for the Galaxy Nexus, what's the recommendations? This phone is for my wife, who's current phone is dead. Not sure she wants to wait another 2 weeks.

Rezound, razr..either would be significantly better than a t-bolt, a tad more expensive I guess.

Return it where you got it from, buy any Verizon phone of your choice at Costco and return it when the Galaxy Nexus arrives.

Good deal if it comes back in stock.

Galaxy is what you should hold out for IMO. If she can wait have her go ahead and do that.

If you're up for an upgrade you can currently get the Droid Razr for $.01 from Amazon wireless. It currently says it's backordered about a week (probably due to huge demand), but that saves $150 on a far superior phone.

I'd run from the Thunderbolt. That hardware was good 9 months ago when it was called the Evo, and even then, it had some flaws that we only overlooked because it was cutting edge at the time. I know, I got one on launch day.

Battery life is atrocious. I had to stick the 3500 mah battery in my Evo to get it to last a day. 4G eats battery even worse, but I'm no longer in a 4G market. Most HTC android phones have poor battery life, but that could be because most HTC android phones have large screens, which doesn't help at all.

I'd suggest that the Wife Acceptance Factor has a lot to do with not having to charge the phone in the middle of the day. I keep a charging cable at work.

My solution has been to get an SGS2 on AT&T, but it sounds like you want to stay with Verizon. The Droid RAZR is a penny on Amazon Wireless. It's backordered (8-9 days) but will save you $150 and give you better hardware, and it won't be a brick like the Thunderbolt. If you don't mind spending a couple hundred on hardware, what about the iPhone? It has the most polished user experience, and since my wife isn't rooting and flashing roms and shit like I do, she loves it.

Here's a good selection for a penny: http://wireless.amazon.com/b/684177011/ref=topnv_tn_bc_vz?phones_categoryCarrier=carrierVerizon

Note that the Thunderbolt is also there if you want that.

Heck, almost any LTE phone is better. Charge, Bionic, or Razr. Heck, some non-LTE phones are better- I would rather have an X2.

Moral of the story- ask this forum BEFORE you buy a phone next time!

While I agree it's definitely advisable to get something other than the Thunderbolt today, I have to say that your comparison of the Thunderbolt to the Evo is incorrect. The Thunderbolt is an entire generation more advanced than the Evo. The Thunderbolt uses a 45nm second generation snapdragon that uses significantly less power and is faster clock for clock than the 65nm version in the Evo. The Thunderbolt's graphics processing chip is quite a few times more powerful, they aren't comparable. The Thunderbolt's camera and video capture abilities are also significantly better than the Evo. The battery life is also better on the Thunderbolt than the Evo. There's also 50% more ram and significantly more storage space for apps and data.

You are correct on the specs, I was generalizing there. The battery life is what I keyed on, and it's horrid, just like the Evo. Remember, this phone is for his wife. Specs probably don't matter nearly as much as practicality. In its stock form, you can't even turn off the LTE radio, can you?

The thunderbolt is a Snapdragon SoC with an LTE radio bolted on top, just like the Evo was with Wimax. Couple that with HTC phones having generally poor battery life, at least in the flagship devices that I'm familiar with, and I'm just not sure why anyone would recommend it.

A phone could be the most awesome model ever made, but it goes no further than its battery life if you actually intend to use it as a portable device. It's really disappointing when you end up with a model that dies in 6-8 hours, and that's what I'm trying to help OP avoid.

Yeah, I'd take the ThunderBolt back asap.

Just sold mine, it was pretty bad, killer speeds, and a great LTE modem, but seriously take it back...
