New subscriber only. Renewal customer will cost $79 after rebate.
The only catch is they can only assign you a NYC number, but you can always call Verizon customer service for free number change. You do also get free earpiece and car charger. The best thing is you can call 1800-2JOININ and get your friend a $25 referral service credit. Or you can simply wait till your introduction package arrive and use the referral cards inside. All you have to do is fill it out and take it to your local Verizon store. Referral person has to be existing Verizon customer. I use my girl friend's number for the referral.

In Verizon store, phone still cost around $125 after rebate. This is the cheapest price I can find at this time. I have Verizon for more than two years. In order to qualify for this deal, I have to get a new number and new account. Verizon don't offer a lot of free minutes but have the best coverage. I travel a lot. :)

I'm afraid of signing up for 2 years -- alot can change in then. Its a long time to be chained to a cell service.

I have had my service with Verizon for over 6 years now and will not hesitate to extend contract with them futher. Verizon has excellent customer service and best coverage in United States, bar none.

I have had Verizon now for over 4 years and not one complaint from me. I would NOT recommend places like T-Mobile, Cingular or anyone else that is on a GSM network. Sprint sucks also IMO.

cheapest northeast cell phone deals are -

*Verizon - $35/mo- 300 min day, unlimited nights/weekends, long distance, 1 year contract, .45 cents/min overuse, $35 activation fee
TMobile - $30/mo - 300 min day, unlimited nights/weekends, long distance, 1 year contract, .40 cents/min overuse, $35 activation fee
Cingular $30/mo - 250 min day, 5000 nights/weekends, long distance, 2 year contract, .49 cents/min overuse, $0 activation fee
AT&T - $30/mo - 200 min day, unlimited nights/weekends, long distance, 1 year contract, .45 cents/min overuse, $36 activation fee

you should always look for a good rate plan first, then worry about what kind of phone afterwards. lot of these places promote free phones but with a lousy plan. yahoo shopping has a good cell phone finder setup. i wouldnt pay more than $35 a month for any plan, not worth it to me :)

:disgust:I just got through getting a refund on my third Motorola 720 cell phone. The phones would not stay connected to the AT&T network from my homes in Eastern Washington state and they would not connect up at all if the phone was more than 10 miles west of Olympia,WA, so I couldn't use them from my son's home. I got a super deal from AT&T and the dealer that resulted in free phones if I signed up for 2 years for AT&T nationwide wireless for $40/month. The phones had many features including internet hookup, but they didn't connect to the wireless service well for ordinary phoning. My kids have AT&T wireless and can talk fine using their cheap cell phones. Go Figure.

I'll pay 20 bucks more than the next carrier as long as the service works good. Right now though, I pay 45 bucks for 1000 peak, unlimited N/W, 1000 mobile to mobile, and unlimited txt messaging, and also data services for my Kyocera 7135.

The FCC passed a law in 1996 stating that no unsigned contract that had to do with telecommunications could be held up if the person with the service has three different problems or more, ie static, dropped calls, etc. Basically it is a way to get out of your contract. to put it simply they can't hold you to a contract if you can get them on three problems.

Got a link to the law? I need it so I can print it out and keep a copy in my safe deposit bank for beating Sprint.

Folks...How's Verizon on line sharing as I require a walkie talkie like set-up between me and the Partner? (ie. extra cost, mobile to mobile=Nextel?) or maybe I should re-up the Nextel ?

How did you get that plan for $45/month? I'm paying $39/month for 1000 peaks minutes but no N/W or mobile.

checkout my tmobile thread for orange cty deal . The $29.99/month deal is 300anytime minutes with free weekends, no free weeknights. The 39.99 tmobile thing has option for free weeknights for extra 2.99/month. Option is only for 39.99+ plans.

I been go through same problem ealier before I jump onto this deal. I end up with T720 because more mod and software hack. VX440 can't even exchance face cover.

Just say no to two year contracts, do you people want that to become the norm in the cellular industry? :|

P.S. The inital release of the CDMA version of the t720 was riddled with bugs, so much so that they recalled them. The second release is supposed to be better, but still not great.

P.P.S. Verizon sucks :p

i live in CA and was actually able to put an order in for the T720 w/ Verizon despite the fact that it was limited to NY. but yea, i called in this morning to confirm and the guy told me it was a "glitch" in their system and that i wouldn't be able to get the phone. either way, you have to be a resident of NY or have a relative or friend in NY to receive the phone cause it looks like they'll only ship to an NY address --- btw: i think the 100$ trade-in/MIR expired yesterday no??? sigh... looks like i'll be stuck with AT&T for a while.

jplee, don't feel too bad.

the t720 is perhaps the most screwed up phone out there. Glitches galore, and the batterylife blows. You are better off without it. I wouldn't buy any phone outside the V60 or Lg4400.
