So I was at the verizon store recently looking for a new phone for my dad, and decided to ask the tech there if he knew of anyway to put custom ringtones onto my phone.

He told me that if I put the .mp3s into the My Music folder and then txt them to myself I can save the attached file as a ringtone.

Here is the hangup.

Fiddle with .mp3 to make it a ringtone (still .mp3 but is smaller and only has the bits I want). CHECK
Transfer .mp3 to phone's My Music folder. (actually worked over bluetooth, huzzah) CHECK
Make sure .mp3s work on the phone (launched the media player and they worked) CHECK
Try to txt the files NO CHECK.

Apparently I cannot text .mp3s or anything from the My Music folder. Instead the files to txt have to be in the My Sounds folder, and apparently have to be .MIDI, at least according to the verizon website, but it didn't seem to work.

For the record I would prefer to try to do this on my Mac since I already have all kinds of music and software on there that I can use for converting and editing, don't have any of that in Windows.

Anybody have any ideas/recommendations on how to get this to work?

You might need the Moto tools software with the special USB data cable (not kidding about the cable). Not sure if this applies to you.
My old V3c was supposed to have OBEX for bluetooth disabled since VZW insist on being douches for ringtones. However, the first firmware didn't disable it. Others had to by the data cable and software or risk sending it to a guy on ebay or cl to flash it back one that supported OBEX.
Might want to check out HowardForums for this. They have oddles of info on even the most pedestrian of phones.
