Today Apple announce an iPhone for Verizon coming this Fall. A new iPhone will be available this summer presumably on the AT&T network. Awesome news for those that were hoping for a different network.

No sources will be cited as there are so many out there that have already posted this story.
 
If they release an iPhone for Verizon, I will have no choice but to buy it the same day. Heaven help me 😀

Ok, I wont refue that. However, according to http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/03/wsj-apple-to-produce-verizon-iphone-in-september/ , the person who reported it has successfully reported other rumors. In addition to that, some people say that Apple does intentionally leak stuff to WSJ.
 
The WSJ & Gruber are usually the sources of official leaks about Apple products.

Also, El Jobso cant have been too happy about seeing this today, an I suspect is the reason the leaks were released...

To be fair, that chart is only half the story...look at the worldwide marketshare one and it paints a different picture.

I know, but most people only get 1/2 the story, the iPhone is massive if you look at the worldwide activity, and that graph only shows data used, not sales. Android users I suspect will be the most heavy data users of all the smartphone OSs, primarly because most Android users are tech geeks.

I immediately looked for the rest of the story, the media and tech bloggers only posted that graph for its shock value. As an investor, I pay attention to worldwide trends, not just US trends, and I read between the lines.

That represents about 30 or so Android phones from 18 or so manufacturers, versus the 3 generations of iPhones, all sold by Apple.

Its taking virtually an entire industry to take a shot at the iPhone.

Dude? Apple has never come out with an original product or idea. Its biggest success is mp3 players which it was a late mover in. I still never bought one, they are crap compared to competition.

iPhone is great, but its not the mediocre hardware that makes it great. Its the apps made by 3rd parties. And, the OS is pretty stellar.

But changed the world, nah.

Before the latest generation of MacBook Pros, how many laptops had 6hrs+ battery life?

Before the iPhone, how many all touch screen phones were there?

Before the MacBooks and MacBook Pros, how many laptops had chiclet keyboards? (I realize that sony did it first, but look how well that took off...)

Before the MacBooks, how many laptops had man sized trackpads?

Prior to the last 3 years, how many All-in-one desktops were there?

Before the Mini, how many external DVD drive sized computers were there?

Honestly, the only areas where the competition doesn't straight ape Apple's design is MP3 players (except for the Zune). And look at that market.

Apple steers the market. Hell, look at the HP Envy 13 and 15... they are practically MacBook Pro clones! Look at all the netbooks and laptops with backlit keyboards and edge to edge glass bezels, heavily rounded corners and apple style hinges. Actually take a look at the market and see who is influencing who and then tell me that Apple hasn't changed the tech world.
 
i wonder if verizon iphones will be cheaper monthly or at&t will have to tweak their plans to keep people...

but yeah on the other note wtf is with the macbook, hai guys we just gna keep selling a 3 yr old model for big $$$, enjoY!

None of that has even come close to changing the world.
changing the world stuff is like
electricity, transistors, integrated circuits, 1 PC in every house, the internet. Not titivating computers.

Only place Is maybe the app store but that still was not orignal. but it sure is changing alot.
 
I would say Apple is very influential on industrial design side of the tech world.
That said, it doesn't matter to me who started what, I want to get the best product out of what's available, and by the time iPhone is out for Verizon, it may look severely lacking compared to Android phones.

Change the world could be overly strong a piece of rhetoric, but you cannot deny that they have altered the PC industry, and given the size of that industry, that is no small thing.

Agreed, they have influenced it.

Sure have created a big stir on large touch screen devices. Tablets are popping up everywhere. Though they have mostly been a failure, i have always found them interesting. What apples coming out with really isn't a tablet though.

I bet someone will figure out a way to give you some tablet, note taking ability with the ipad. Though since im done with school at the end of this year, I prob will skip it.

I really like my iphone though. It sorta sucks for current users, I dont want to buy another iphone. I hope the hardware is unchanged in next iphone 🙂.

No one said that, all the rumor is saying is that Verizon will also be getting an iPhone.

I would not expect Apple to not release a new iPhone this summer around June, whether or not they announce it for Verizon, I am interested in seeing.

Apple rarely telegraphs what its going to do officially.

However, its likely that Apple will release a new iPhone in June, and if the reports are to be believed, they will release a CDMA version of the iPhone in September or slightly later. A TMobile release has also been kicked around for some time.

Apple sells iPhones through multiple carriers in the same country all over the world, the US market is an anomaly because of the multiple types of competing cell phone technology, and because of the lucrative and exclusive deal Apple had/has with ATT (which is rumored to expire this year). IIRC, South Korea has a significant CDMA cell phone infrastructure as well, the rest of the world is primarily GSM.

I think you mean mobile phone industry. Last time i checked, Mac OS X was still around 5% in the personal computer market share.
 
This is still a rumor, I have no problem if the iphone does to Verizon, maybe I can get AT&T to drop some prices a bit..since I get 35% off at Verizon.
