(Verizon) HTC Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys on. My rezound is having some issues and I've been offered a Galaxy Nexus as a replacement. Should I do it? Which is the better phone? Thanks in advance!

I personally like my Galaxy Nexus simply because I can mess with the OS and always have the latest if I feel the need. All else hardware-wise being equal, the open software side of things is a huge difference even if you don't mess with the ROM's yourself, simply because you will have several Verizon approved updates before you ever get to see an update on the Rezound.

Strongly disagree. The GNex is a better found in every way then the Rezound, screen quality, build quality, OS, and hardware.

The Rezound screen is a 4.3 inch display at that is non pentile; it's a ~342PPI SLCD. The front and rear camera on it are far better than the Nexus cameras(had the best camera of all Android phones until the Galaxy S3 and One X came out). MicroSD slot and simultaneous voice and data over VZW's 3G also.

The rezound is the better phone; esp with regards to reception. You might also consider the razr max which is the same generation; not to be confused with the new razr hd max.

the nexus has really bad reception and poor build (also screen scratches easily). The newer nexus has better receptions than the earlier model but still pretty poor. The rezound worse characteristic is that it is a bit bulky.

The Rezound screen is also not optically bonded to the glass. And, side by side the GNex, looks visibly worse. Gnex screen is still over 300PPI.

Haven't touched the camera on the Rezound, but the Gnex's 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 updates resolved most of the glitches with the camera that existed in 4.0.2.

Not sure where you're getting the Gnex glass scratching easily . . . its using a fortified glass. Mine's been without a screen cover for a year and has no scratches or damage at all. HTC usually uses subpar glass.

Go with the Gnex if those are your only two choices. Its in a class above the Rezound.

Nexus devices age slower than anything skinned, easily outlive contract phones. Rezound won't get anything past JB while the GNex is likely to get another major upgrade with Android 5.0.

Hmmmm......is there a noticeable upgrade from Galaxy Nexus to GS3? From a glance seem the screen quality and camera is a bit better with the trade off of worse software support. Thoughts?

I'd say the hardware is superior in the Galaxy S III in every way: better display, significantly better battery life, better camera, better CPU, better GPU, more RAM, microSDXC card slot, better LTE performance, etc...

As far as software goes, the Galaxy S III is well supported in CyanogenMod, so if you're up for rooting, you should be fine.

All around, it's a better phone.

With the nexus 4 release; the galaxy nexus price has dropped a bit; not sure you will get a lot on criaglist so you should double check before going that route. If it were me I would get verizon to give you a razr max over a galaxy nexus (do not accept a regular razr as it has shitty battery life). There are a lot of folks in the office I work that have the nexus and while they preach the google freedom they admit that the hardware in the nexus is generally flawed per reasons I mentioned above. As lemons go the nexus was about as close as it gets. The s3 (hardware) is a good device but some folks in fringe area complain that 3g reception is very poor (there is a 15 page thread over at xda that mentions this). The other complaint I hear about the s3 is that some folks just don't like touchwiz; but as mentioned above the bootloader has been hacked on hte nexus and you can put a custom rom on it if you wish to go that route.
The razr is ok but it is same generation as rezound/nexus (the s3 is quite a bit faster). Probably the biggest complaint I hear about the razr is the glass on the front is a bit thin so if you drop it - it tends to shatter a bit more than some other phones.

Also be aware that if verizon is giving a phone it is almost certainly refurbished. Refurbished phones are someitme fine and dandy but a lot of time they are defective phones that have been returned.

As far as I can tell (from forums only) verizon defn of refurbished is a bit weaker than the common usage of the term.

Thanks guys! Was too lazy to deal with buying and selling so loaded up Codename Android on the Nexus. Pretty happy overall with the device with the ease of loading up some nice sw. . I got an upgrade coming next July or something so I might jump on the Galaxy s4 .

I sold my G.Nexus & bought a GS3. GS3 blows the Nexus out of the water in almost every single aspect except os version. BUT the GS3 does have Jellybean 4.1.1, which is more than adequate for a super fast phone.
Camera, screen, hardware, battery, reception, sd card, size/thinness. I thought I would miss AOSP & hate TouchWiz, but I don't. In fact I like the little touches TW add to the experience.
