Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 Update Countdown Thread: Rolling 1&2 June 2012

Went back to 4.0.2 so I could wait for the official update for fun. I rebooted my phone and the update showed up. Try rebooting your phone if you spent all day just hitting check for updates.
 
Happy to report that 1) Google Navigation no longer triggers a reboot, and 2) Its back to the detailed voices again.
 
Try this:

1. go to setting / apps then hit the all button at the top
2. scroll down to google services framework and then press it to open
3. hit the clear data button
4. go to settings / about phone / system updates (you will notice the date will be 1969 or 1970 this is ok )
5. hit the check now button
6. Nexus should show you the 4.0.4 update avaliable
7. hit install and enjoy

Courtesy of XDA forums. Lots of people are saying if it didn't work the first time they did the whole process a 2nd time right after and it pretty much always worked then.

I attempted this a dozen times and got nothing, YMMV.
 
I've been trying that about 10 times a day since the 31st, not a peep yet.

Though I have noticed that doing that sometimes screws up my push notifications, specifically for Google Voice and Gmail.

Originally I had read that you should hit clear data and force stop, but that didn't work for me. I tried it once more while on lunch today, but didn't hit force stop just clear data, and that did it for me.

Your Google Navigation should now work correctly, unlocking to Camera should now be instant, and 3G-4G handoffs should now be much smoother. These are what I've noticed.

Still need to do more testing, but I think I'm seeing more bars of signal, particularly in places were I got minimal signal before. Speed tests are about the same though . . . they change how the signal strength is translated to bars?

Yes, I read that the bar display has been changed to "more accurately" reflect actual reception. I am seeing more bars, but haven't made enough calls to know yet if the improvement is strictly cosmetic.
 
I was hoping that this update (with new radio firmware) would improve signal at my house and at work (where I spend 99% of my time), and possibly let me finally take advantage of LTE (both areas are "extended coverage"). Alas it didn't. I still get reception at work and home, but the data speeds are atrocious and coupled with the weak signal my battery life gets raped (even with LTE turned off).

I've been using a GSM GNex on T-mobile for the last two weeks, I'm gonna cancel that and give straight talk a try (AT&T) then I'll decide who I'm going to switch to. The way I see it, why stick with Verizon when I can get the same service (T-mobile is better in both locations) or better, and for a much cheaper price.

I've been running the leak for weeks so I can you that you shouldn't expect significantly better signal strength with the update. What is does do is fix the random drops that occur even with a strong signal and improve the 4g/3g handoff.

I think there's only so much that can be done with a Samsung radio . . . crap.

Edit - Google Wallet is still a nogo for me. Anyone have better luck?

I used the trick a while back to get it to install directly from the market, you pretty much trick the play store into letting it install.

Now, it doesn't show up on my "installed" list, but it does show up on my "all" list and it lets me update it. Go figure.
