<------ Envious. Though Comcast cable is pretty solid for me so far, in fact great for downloads. Just wish I had more UL bandwidth

I just got FIOS today, and it rocks! I opted for the $30 package (5 Mbps/2 Mbps). Using the Speakeasy Speedtest, I'm getting: Download Speed: 5036 kbps. :)

I'm using my existing MS MN-700 Wireless Router. As long as your router will do PPoE, then (I believe) any router should work just fine.

My PC's are upstairs and not in a room with an accessible exterior wall. I ran a CAT5 cable through the wall into the master bedroom, under the edge molding, to the exterior wall. And the installer ran it through the outside wall down to the box outside. It's a very nice/clean install and looks great.
I'm looking forward to it and hoping that it can be a nice clean install. I really don't want 200ft of cable running along my baseboards, haha. If they are runing all new cable anyway, I don't see why they couldn't move the current box to some other location if necessry.
Well, they need to run fiber optic cable from the street to the box on your house, and there are only certain areas they can do that. (i.e. They can't run it under your driveway, through your front yard, to the other side of the house.) Besides, they already have installed junctions at the street, near your box.

So, it's up to you if you want a cleaner install.

That might work since the side of the room that i have the PC curently at is facing the road, just on the 2nd story. My current phone box is on the otherside of the house (back yard). I thought they would just run the fiber line through the air like the copper line currently is.

I have comcast now and its pretty dang fast - 6MB down - I get pretty steady 3.8mb or so on avg. I know thats almost 1/2 of what I'm suppose to get, but cable is UP TO 6MB, haha!

what is the kbps suppose to be for 15MB?

Got FIOS here. Installer was a freaking schmo. While installing the line for the battery backup, he lanced the line in 4 different places causing numerous outages and eventually shorted out the ONT on the side of my house. He also put a staple in the data connection to my PC which caused really crappy performance. Had to have verizon senior tech come back to my house 4 times to redo everything! At least they made good on it.

I am flying at 15 down 2 up and downloading from newsgroups at 12.5mbps!!

I had to buy a 500GB HDD because I literally filled up my existing 2 x 400GB HDDs with, umm, err, "stuff"

I loved calling up cablevision and cancelling my cable modem service!

I asked Verizon if they offerred newsgroups, as comcast does not, and they said I won't need anything like that, HAHAHA!

Nice to know you are enjoying your "stuff" after a successfull fix! :)

they have newsgroups... I've been using it for years through Verizon both before and after FIOS. I thought the newsgroups would be blazing fast now but unless the newsgroup reader I'm using is seriously flawed (XNews) the newsgroups servers are horrendously slow.

My hometown (North Kansas City) is going to be the first city gov't to install FOIS through the entire town and run it as a utility.
