Verizon "early phone upgrade"

I keep getting paper and email advertisements stating I can upgrade my phone early right now. The end of my 2 year contract is approaching in Dec. If I upgrade now I would get any promo pricing w/ a new 2 yr contract but no "New every 2" $100 credit if I wait until December. I dislike this kind of marketing, I find it deceptive.

on certain plans and if you pay your bills on time you may qualify for an early upgrade which allows you to upgrade your phone with the promo pricing and discounts a couple of months before your contract expires. to be more specific, the early upgrade feature becomes available in the 20th month after the original agreement of a 2-year contract.

OK, but if I wait 2 months more I can also get a $100 "new every 2" credit. Unless I misunderstand the promo flyers I have been receiving, the $100 credit is not included with this early upgrade.

Just curious

I'll give them a call and find out. If I can get the $100 credit now I will be all over it. Otherwise I'll wait a few more months to save that $$ as my current phone is still fine.

Thx for your replies

It may be that on that new every 2 deal is $100 off of retail price and not off any new customer signup price. I dunno though.

They're not trying to cheat you... some people are really that impatient. Some people care enough about their phone to pay full price even so they can upgrade more often.

Previously the $100 credit was stacked on top of any promo pricing. It's essentially like signing up for a new 2 year contract fresh off the streets as a non-verizon customer but you get the $100 "loyalty" bonus. Kind of weak (I would prefer not to have to sign another contract) but a new phone at a discount is tempting too.

The only thing forcing you to sign a new contract is your desire to have a new phone. You can't expect them to give you a huge discount on a new phone without a guarantee that they'll get that money back in monthly fees (or early cancellation fees).

I had two months left back in July and VZ had a promo then for buy one Chocolate and get one free. I talked with their rep and got both mine and my wife's upgraded for free with the credit + 1600 overdraft min. Cost me total of $0 for two new nifty phones. For all the complaints I hear about VZ, they've been pretty good for us. 2 yrs contract is no big deal, it's our second renewal. The E815 from the last upgrade is still good for spare.

I just did an online chat w/ a VZW rep. He suggested I wait until Dec when i can use the $100 NE2 credit. I don't mind waiting, I just figured if I could do it now I would.

What are the overdraft minutes you speak of? I have never reall haggled w/ a rep to get something extra, just took what they offered. Maybe I should try it out this time around. This will be my 3rd renewal.

Until it stops charging properly without jumping through hoops.

Seriously that is the most buggy piece of shit I've ever had.. I love the design and when it worked it was awesome but holy shit does it suck once it 'turns' on you.

My wife has a E815, when you say jumping thru hoops, what do you mean?

Here is what I've had to do on two different models. It's like a shitty choose your own adventure.

1) Plug in.. you are presented with two choices
1a) Phone completely turns off and reboots
1b) Phone displays 'Unable to Charge'
Typically you have to unplug the charger from the wall, reconnect it a few times to get this to stop happening. This is how it starts

Stage two is more exciting.

2) Plug in, you now have three choices
(same as 1a and 1b but now you have...)
2c) Endless reboot cycle no matter what. To rectify this you have to remove the battery and then you are back to stage one again.

Finally the most exciting...
Combine stage one and two and then after it gets to this point you might get the dreaded USB bootloader screen. The ONLY way to solve this one is to pull the battery and keep putting it back in until you see the HelloMoto screen.

And now at this point, the ONLY way to charge your phone is to turn it off completely, once you plug in the power now that the phone is off it will power on and do one of two things:
3a) Turn on and charge normally after making lots of beeps
3b) Give you the USB bootloader screen.

Enjoy your inevitable torture. Fuck you motorola.

Hopefully it won't come to that. She's already dropped it in the toilet once and it came out fine.

so what was it, they are being deceptive or you were just being ignorant.

btw, i have a family plan in which only one of the phones qualifies for new every two, but all the phones qualify for discounted pricing at 20 months, to me that's great news, that's 2 months sooner than it used to be.

Maybe not either:confused:. They weren't exactly deceptive and I'm not ignorant, just hopeful that I could have the best of both worlds.

Thanks for your comment
