i could connect online just fine if my pc is connected directly to modem. if i connect using my router, and router wan port to modem, i can't connect to the router configuration. if i connect just to my router, and no modem, i can't even change my IP address, it just says under ipconfig /all, that my connection is disconnected. so it seems like it only likes it if my NIC is directly connected to modem and thats it.

any way aroudn this/?? i checked their website and they are offering "home networking" option for free. is this the only way to get all my pc online?

Are you using a straight through or crossover cable?

straight,

it connected before just fine, but when i setup my dsl modem, and software, it said to first connect directly to modem, do not use a router, or firewall, or virus suite. after all that my dsl worked, then when i connected to router , i couldn't connect. i couldn't even connect with the router wan port not connect, and just connected my pc to router.

What router are you using?
I had the same problem and I needed to change my routers IP address to 192.168.2.1 the DSL modem uses 192.168.1.1 and there is a conflict if you do not.

BUT, you can't configure the router unless you also change your computer to 192.168.2.XXX

So,
step 1 change your computer to 192.168.1.100
step2 connect your computer to your router only
step 3 log onto your router and change it's IP to 192.168.2.1
step 4 your will not be able to connect to your router after you click apply in step 3
step 5 change your computer's IP to 192.168.2.100
step 6 log back into your router and connect your dsl modem
step 7 configure your router with your user name and password- it should connect now- you might have to reboot everything at this point
step 8 change your routers default password to something else

that should do it

Does Verizon us PPPoE login? SBC DSL does. Basically to sign onto their network do you use a login and password? If you do sign in with a login and passowrd, you need to config your router to have the login and password in order for it to connect. I get the feeling you don't have your router configured properly, give it another look. Just some thoughts... Hope it is helpful.

U DA MAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks.

when i tried to change my IP, it worked, but when i did a ipconfig, it says that is was connected, only after i restarted did it show my IP correctly.
also, i thought my password was "vision" but it wasn't, i was trying everything, and it was "admin". im pretty sure it was vision before, but it may have been defaulted when i hit the reset switch on the router.

also, i had to put in the router as the default gateway, i also put in dns, dont know if dns was really needed though. gonna experiment. but now im online connected through my router. thanks buddy

Not so fast. :brokenheart::confused::eek:

As far as I know Verizon is Using PPPOE for authentication.:Q

If it is so you currently are using the Router but the PPPOE software does the Authentication . Such an arrangement usually leads later to Trouble.

So what shell I do???

No, the router takes care of the authentication, you can remove all the dsl software from your pc.
It should work fine, without you doing anything else.
