my speed been slow lately, so I requested speed upgrade to 1.5MB download and at no charge. They told me it will be ready on Monday. i call now to check status, tech rep told she found the order but it looks like it been entered inccorectly, I gotta redot it or put trouble ticket on it and you will have to wait another week. No more Tier 1 tech support for me, I called Tier 3 dude said order is fine and they should be done with it by 5pm on Monday. Those of you with Verizon call to upgrade your speed its free before they charge $10 extra

I beg to differ. I just spent two weeks on Time Warner Road Runner and I was awaiting the day I would get home to be back on Verizon. My bill is cheaper per month, I have four static IPs, and my upload speed is three times as fast.

well I hate local cable company, ( optimium online), they have lots of downtimes its tough to deal with them. If i was in time warner area I would consider cable. benefit of Verizon DSL, good prices always coming down, reliable company plus have management contacts, WIFI becoming popular and they will have accespoints on their payphones in Brooklyn soon and its free for Verizon DSL customers. In manhattan now you connect using WIFI almost at any major intersection

I live in Northern NJ (about 10 minutes away from you), could you give me the number to call for the Verizon DSL speed increase?

are they going to charge the extra $10 later on if I upgrade the speed now?

NO its their new structure you pay 34.95 you get 1.5MB download and 128 upload no extra charge but you gotta call and in about 5 days you should be browsing faster. Call customer service or retention dept ask to be upgraded

BS its not modem but your line, they run a test to see if you close to the office if your line will support it. when you dial the number say cancel than you will be connected to retention dept higher customer service if regular rep refuses to help demand supervisor if that fails demand to be transfereed to presidential appeal team

I did have RCN in central NJ, but now they've been bought out by patriot media. It was awsome for the first 2 months when there was no cap on my modem. I was downloading at 600 KB/sec with an upload of 100 KB/sec. Then old fart sniffing Pat Media had to cap the service to shite. I now get 130 KB/sec with a 30KB/sec upload. However Im always connected, I don't remember once disconnecting for the passed month or two. Very dependable connection for 35 a month with cable TV.

They will be offering the same upgrade deal like verizon. Since I got a taste of how fast the RCN network can get, It might be very well worth the money.

You know, BILLING will also do the upgrade for ya. Anyway, if you want more info on the deal check out THIS thread.

Quote from the thread regarding the fujitsu modem...

"To the person who could not upgrade because the frame relay is only 768kbps, I'm surprised. The frame relay that they are talking about is the connection between Verizon Online's location in your city and the Verizon phone network. Your DSL connection goes from your home to the CO, then onto Verizon's phone network. To get to the Internet, it must go through your ISP's (in your case, Verizon Online is your ISP; they are a separate company from Verizon the phone people) connection to the Verizon network in order to eventually get out on the Internet. There are two types of connections that your ISP can have: frame relay and ATM. Frame relay is being phased out right now, and Verizon is moving toward ATM connections in all of their new locations. Frame relay connections top out at around T1 speeds I believe, while ATM can go up to DS3 and beyond. The problem keeping you from upgrading is that VOL's connection to the phone network is only 768kbps in your city, which means that all DSL customers are feeding off of that line. Nice, huh? If the speed is not oversold, you don't really ever notice a difference between frame relay and ATM service. Frame relay service uses the good old Fujitsu dark gray modems usually, while ATM service can use a number of them, the most popular being Westell Wirespeed ones."
