verizon dsl + sonicwall, works fine but can't access the modem's config page now

We have Verizon Business DSL with a static ip, and when I first plugged it into the SonicWall TZ 170, I could access the modem's configuration page just fine. (note that our network is on 192.168.10.xxx while the modem's ip is 192.168.1.1) After I changed the SonicWall from dhcp to static and put in the info from verizon, the internet works fine but I can now longer get into that verizon page by hitting 192.168.1.1... does anyone know why???

You need to get the modem configured for bridge mode instead of router mode since your sonicwall is acting as your router, you have double NAT going on there.

it is configured in bridge mode; if it wasn't i wouldn't even be able to get on the net.

That's not true. I would research the differences between bridge mode and routing mode. Then switch it to bridge mode. If it is in bridge mode, you don't need the configuration page for the modem.

And yes, in routing mode with double NAT, you could still get on the internet with no problem. Problem comes in when port forwarding is concerned.

192.168.1.1 is a private, non-routable IP address. I'm guessing that the Sonicwall is following the rules and dropping all packets to that address on the WAN port.

but so how do i get back into the verizon page if i needed to change something in the modem settings?

Change your IP settings to 192.168.1.2 as default, and your ip as 192.168.1.100... then you should be able to get in. Just so long as your default gateway matches that of the verizon thingamajig.

If you set the modem to bridged mode, you will not ever need to get back there unless you want to change it.

There is a LOT of misinformation in this thread.

What is the WAN IP of the SonicWall? If it's a public IP, then you don't need to do anything. That means the SonicWall is properly configured to do PPPoE, which is what you want.

If it's one of the private IP scope (192.168.0.0/16, 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12), then you need to remove the SonicWall temporarily and plug your computer directly into the DSL modem. That will allow you to access the DSL modem's configuration page to switch it to bridge mode. After that, you shouldn't need to touch it again.

When in Router mode the modem probably does the authentication (ID & PW).

You have to find what the ID and PW are, and use the Sonicwall to authenticate when the modem is in Bridge Mode.
