Verizon DSL slow connections.

I'm about to drop verizon dsl, these past couple of months it's been very slow. Whenever I download a small file or visit a site with heavy graphics, it takes more than an hour or timesout. Has anyone else exprienced the same problems? It usually occurs around 6pm - midnight, but by then I've to get to bed for work.

I'd call verizon a couple of times, and they keep telling me nothing's wrong on their end; that my computer is infected with virii, spyware, etc etc. Right now I'm really unhappy with their service. :|

Before I switch, are there any recommendations on which ISP is better?

any cable companies around your area? my sister had verizon dsl 768kbits connection for a year or 2 (only about $15 a month). I moved back home and got optimum online which is 15mbit. damn, this connection is FAST! I have been paying $43 for roadrunner which is only 3mbit connection.
