Verizon DROID by Motorola is now $49.99 at authorized dealer Wirefly
+ free FedEx shipping with no rebates & no tax
PLUS $50 cashback from Bing if you start your shopping session at Bing search, making the net price $0.00 LINK

Price is for new accounts or upgrades with a 2-year contract.

Unfortunately, family plan price is only for the first 2 phones. Add-a-lines are $119.99 for new accounts, $149.99 for upgrades.

To get this price plus $50 BingCashback you must
  1. Start your shopping session from Bing Search and click on the Wirefly Bing cashback link
  2. Click on Verizon link on Wirefly or search for "DROID".
  3. Complete your purchase in the same online session.

Online orders only. Up to $250 from Bing for a 5-line family plan. As with all the other Droid deals, a data plan is required.

If you are a Verizon customer ordering an upgrade, Wirefly only offers this deal on plans starting at $59.99/month. You also must be upgrading the primary line on the account and must pass Verizon's upgrade eligibility check.

As with all Wirefly deals, you agree to maintain your rate plan and required data features for at least 6 months to avoid additional charges. Verizon forces you to keep these data features on the Droid anyway ($30/month per phone).

For what it's worth, I have purchased from Wirefly and selected "Standard" free shipping and received my order by FedEx in 1 day.

If anybody is upgrading and has a Touch Pro or similar they're upgrading from and wants to help me out, PM me. 🙂

Paid $350 for 2 Droids and an Erris the day before Christmas. This is a killer deal. Going through Verizon will give you a year of "manufacturer defect" replacement... but when Wirefly is free, who cares?

I guess I'm about the only young guy that knows nothing about cellphones and the like. About how much is a monthly plan for this thing, with internet access?

Cheapest plan seems to be $40, then $30 for unlimited data. $45 for data if you need business email as well.

AFAIK for an individual $30 for data access (mandatory), voice plans start from $40, which only gives you 450 minutes, extremely shitty deal if you ask me, and that doesn't include texting. If you want texting plans start with $60. So the cheapest plan to have droid is $70, and I don't know if that includes taxes or not. In short, free droid is nice, but those $200 you just saved are peanuts compared to what you're going to shell out during your two year contract.

*shrugs* it's a good deal for those looking at the phone anyway, or who already have smartphones

Those rates are pretty standard with all carriers (except maybe sprint) so we're all getting screwed in the same way if we want smartphones.

$70 a month? Son of a bastard. This is why I don't have a cell phone.

It's the REQUIRED net part that chaps my ass. I have an iphone and most of the time I'm in a wifi area so have free net access. Having map access everywhere is convenient, but not necessary. I'd gladly save my $30 a month if I had the choice.

I'm not saying it's a bad deal, it's the best deal on droid currently. I'm just saying don't get caught up in the moment and think if you can afford $70+ a month for two years before you commit.

BTW you can have smartphone and not pay for data access. You just have to go prepaid. You can get droid and sign up with one of the VZW MVNO's such as PPC or Mingo. There are some kinks and wrinkles associated with prepaid plans such as less coverage and steep roaming fees, and fairly bad customer support if you chose to go with PPC (Mingo should be good), but they offer 4-7 cents per minute rates, which is better than VZW 450 minutes for $40 plan and you are not committed for two years so you can leave any time. You still have data at $0.60-1.20 per MB rates if you need it (it's a lot to pay, but it is there in case of emergency if you just HAVE to check your mail or use GPS). You can probably also get Motorola Cliq on T-Mobile pay as you go plan if you want major carrier, but double check on that before you buy as I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah the more I research the more I think this might be the biggest rip-off going right now. So my little phone costs more than my satellite + internet at home? There is no way it should cost more to use my cell phone 1-2 hours a day than it does to have internet & HDTV service at my house 24/7. I am interested in getting a cell phone but I dont think Im going to pull the trigger given the absurd pricing across the board. People need to get their heads straight.

You are essentially paying for another pipe to the net. The tech is newer and highly mobile, therefore more expensive.

You can get a perfectly sufficient cell phone without all the whiz bang features for free with a regular voice plan that will run you ~$30/month. Probably even less if you did prepaid or something.

I don't have a home phone at all and I rely on the nearly-anywhere data connection for business, so $70 isn't a big deal.

I called them.
I have a Verizon family plan that is no longer offered by Verizon.
Wirefly would not do the deal unless I switched to a more expensive, currently offered, family plan.

I ordered the Droid from Amazon for $99. They kept my current plan and added the $30 data plan for this phone only.

Verizon wanted $300 for the phone with a $100 mail-in rebate.
The Amazon deal was the easiest and the best value for me.

This deal has gotten even hotter - the Bing cashback is up to $100! Microsoft is paying me $50 to buy a Droid. FTMFW!!

The only thing to keep in mind is that I'm pretty sure you don't get even the 1 year warranty on these phones through Verizon. I will probably do the Verizon insurance, as it is refundable if you don't use it.

Isn't the whole point of selling insurance that most people will pay the fees without taking advantage of it? I don't see why they'd refund it if you don't use it.
