Verizon Contract Cancellation Update

ill give you an official answer, but feel free to debate it all you want. txt messaging is an optional service and therefore you have no grounds to cancel the contract b/c of the rate change. basically, you do not have to pay for it, and only pay for it if you choose to.

furthermore, the $0.40 hike can (and by a good rep will) be offset by a $0.40 credit each month for the remainder of your contract and the contract stays valid. not quite the loophole youre looking for, though there are stupid reps out there who dont understand how things work and may waive the etf for you

lol, u a verizon rep? 😉

but i think you'r right. Lucky bastards those who actually got it to work. My 2yr contract just started in april, and goes itll 2007. So I think even if I call next time about the administration fee, its gonna raise alarms, and the rep will call the supervisor who wont let me do it :-/

God dammit, i had my hopes high of getting a new contract with the new motorola phone and get money by selling my existing vx6100.

I get a paperless bill online, how will I ever get a notice?? It will show up eventually on the online bill, but arent I suppose to get an actual Notification of the change in the fee?

If you get a paperless bill you undoubtedly signed (probably electronically acknowledged) an agreement that you would accpet official notices electronically. You probably won't get official notice in the mail.

I dont know about the extra text message fee but the admin fee (referenced in the other thread) IS a material change to your contract and they MUST allow you to opt out.

couple of things...

i'm trying to get out of my contract too...

i talked to a rep and she said that you can't cancel due to the hike increase on text messages because

1. you have the option of NOT opening the text message and
2. they have bundle packages..

kind of like what the other poster was saying a few posts above...

and to address the issue about the paperless bills and getting a notice...

go to my account on the verizonwireless webpage...

there a tab called "billing"

and then under that tab there is one called "news and info"

you can check to see if there was any price hikes or increases or any changes made by reading this section... i believe you can read up to 4 months back...

but yes... congrats to those that convinced the rep they talked to to cancel with the txt message increase... didn't work for me 🙁

Nice find Shim, thanks!
I saw the Administrative charge mentioned in my online account under this month's news that they will start charging Oct 1. So I guess time to call verizon again. will let you guys know how it goes...but verizon is getting smarter, so dont have too high hopes.

thanks hitenya! not going to cancel, but it's good to know about the fee increase - didn't realize it had happened.

Welcome to anandtech, don't mind the jerks... there is just an automatic bias against people who use te "black guy" avatar and post a hot deal as their first post, not because of any racism, but just because it is used all the time by spammers since it is the default.

...maybe we should change the default to the monorail salesman from the simpsons?
