Okay, I know some of you switch phones often. How do the SIM cards work with all the changing? Do you just keep the one card and swap it around? If you go back to a 3G device and then go 4G again, do you use the old card again?

Thinking of getting a used 4G device so I can get a SIM now, and then falling back to my 3G phone until a 4G device comes along I may want to buy (at full price to keep my unlimited data).

Thanks in advance!

You can move the sim card between 4G devices without issue. If you decide to go back to a 3G device that does not use the sim the sim gets deactivated and can never be used again. You will need to get a new sim from Verizon when you get a 4G device if you went back to a 3G only phone since getting the sim.

You can keep unlimited data whether you upgrade to a 4G phone right away or much later down the road. All you have to do is buy the phone without using Verizon's subsidized upgrade pricing(Buy it full priced retail, buy it used, etc..) once they stop allowing unlimited data to continue with subsidized upgrades. The one guy misspoke, keeping/losing your unlimited data really has nothing to do with 4G at all. They will just start making people switch to a shared data plan if they do a subsidized upgrade in the future.

Okay I thought there was something weird like that. Hopefully they never do some sort of "no 4G without changing plan" BS...but I'm sure they will at some point. Give it 4 years and I bet it's all over.

It makes sense from Verizon's perspective to allow current unlimited data users to keep it indefinitely. That by itself will ensure that people like me give Verizon money every single month indefinitely. Having unlimited data and knowing I can't get it back if I leave ties me to Verizon far more strongly than any contract ever could. They definitely make more money than they lose by doing this.

Not only that, you have to buy your phone outright from now until the end of time. Doing the math, they only way you can benefit is if you use more than 5GB a month.
