Verizon 3G network a little flakey lately?

This may of course be NYC only, but I've been noticing that my droid (along with my wife's and dad's) has been having an odd amount of dropped network connections lately. Voice seems fine but data's been very spotty. This is on 2 different account in various parts of NYC.

Anyone experience this? I'm wondering if there's a network upgrade or troubleshooting in progress...It's been bad for the past week and a half or so, and rock solid before.

My friend was reporting similar problems on his Droid in Central PA.

Hmmm, may just be a local issue. The biggest issue is that I use my droid as a dedicated GPS and get "data connection lost" fairly often, especially in Manhattan and parts of Queens NY. Again this is on 3 different phones (on two different plans).

I have some issues occasionally. However I've put a new radio baseband update on my droid, been playing with different ROMs and kernels (currently BB 0.4 plus Chevy's ulv 1.1 GHz kernel) along with nightly beta's of Juice Defender (which takes control of wifi and data connections) so it's not surprising. I swear at it and just toggle whichever one is aggravating me at the moment (JD has a location feature he's working on, I have it set to disable wifi when not at home...sometimes it's a little off in its location assessment heh).

I've noticed more issues than normal lately on my Droid too. I think it's the big uptake of the Android phones on the VZW network. If and when the iPhone hits the VZW network, I believe that it will get much worse.

yup i get that too. on a side note, is it possible to leave the gps on without specifying a destination? sometimes i just wanna see whats around me but it always requires me to put in a destination.

Are you using Froyo? Because I was able to just view the map under 2.1 but Froyo requries that I set a destination, at least using the car dock menu. I bet just going into MAPS instead of NAVIGATION is the key either way

I drive all over San Diego county all day long. The phone calls work fine, but I've been having data connection issues the last two weeks in known good places. I checked the bandwith using speedtest, and it was normal? It's around 1-2 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up.

I'm not on Verizon anymore, but I've been having 3g issues on T-Mobile for the past few days.
