Verizon $20 300mb data plan launching in selected areas

It's about what AT&T and T-Mobile charge for their 200mb. They charge $15 for 200mb. So $5 for 100mb more is business as usual.

I would be fine with 300mb based on my current use.

Well duh, since they are no longer getting the overage golden goose $$$$ for minutes or text anymore they need to try and get it via a new area. Network capacity has nothing to do with these changes.

Today's paper just announced that Verizon is starting 4G coverage here in Tucson. No one else has any plans for it (yet!)

Hmmm.... I'm on the AT&T 250MB plan, and I mostly stay under the 250MB limit unless I'm travelling. I sync calendars, contacts and outlook email between my home and corporate Outlook accounts onto my phone, check the web a bit and that's about it... I tend to use around 200MB a month, and have an auto-SMS set up to tell me if I get within 80% of the limit. I've only gone over twice in the last 15 months since I switched - both times I was travelling and using google maps a lot - and then I just changed the plan to the 2GB plan (on my phone's app) for $10 more for just that month and then changed it back afterwards.

To me, I'm happy for the choice to pay less to use less... It's saved me $205 (over 15 months... 13mX$15+2mX$5) vs. the unlimited plan that I was on.

This would work for me if they have SMS or email alerts when you get close to the limit.

While I'm not defending the pricing, there are a lot of people out there who don't use their smartphones like the average Anandtech user does. Those people can get by on 300MB a month just fine.

For $15 for 300 MB I would probably start working at getting my wife a smartphone...of course, after their crappy tiers we bit the bullet and used her upgrade (available since 2006) on a LG flip phone.

Are you in a grandfathered plan?
After 7/7, Verizon corporate discounts for data no longer apply unless you're under the $50+/month data plan and above.

i still have my 15% government discount on verizon, and i'm on a shared plan w/my wife and we both have iphones with unlimited data and share 700 minutes and unlimited texts.

and $20 for 300mb is fine for people w/very minimal useage. if i didn't use pandora or di.fm, i'd use pretty much well under 300mb/month on my phone.

When I had knee surgery last year and for 1.5 months I did not use my phone for any data at all as I was in bed healing and used my laptops for everything, It still managed to use 256megs by just being ON.

Hmm I'm still getting 18% off my line and my data on our family plan since the switch.

I'd be glad to have a 300mb plan. I barely ever use the internet, and when I do, I can limit myself to only wi-fi in college and home.

I've only used 237MB for my latest billing period, and I am on day 28/31. Probably under 300 every month. Most of the time when I use my phone for data I am connected to a wifi.

I'd probably consider this tier if it was available.
